DOOR TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment)
Lake County High School is seeking a teacher on special assignment for the DOOR program. LCHS seeks the best people to work with our students and staff. The DOOR program is a program within LCHS that serves students who meet one or multiple risk factors or barriers to graduation. These students work in a competency-based program where they meet benchmarks identified by the Colorado Department of Education in English and Math. Additionally, they must work on a portfolio to demonstrate their competency in civics and 21st Century skills. Students are encouraged to work, have internships and utilize this flexible pathway to graduation and their post-secondary goals.
While DOOR currently exists as program within LCHS, there is interest in moving it to its own location as well as interest in obtaining its own school code. In order to keep these options open, a candidate with a Type D Administrator license or a willingness to obtain one is preferred.
Expectations for this position includes being a team player, being flexible and focusing on student achievement and outcomes.
- Responsible for the leadership, vision and smooth running of the DOOR program.
- Responsible for culture, discipline, safety and behavior in the DOOR program. This includes administrative decision-making about student behavior consequences.
- Responsible for regular communication with DOOR student parents about student concerns and progress, in collaboration with LCSD Family Engagement Specialist if/as needed.
- Responsible for working with LCHS principal, LCSD superintendent and LCSD board on the ongoing development of the DOOR program in collaboration with DOOR staff
- Responsible for working alongside DOOR staff with case management, portfolio management and the day to day operations of DOOR
- Responsible for the evaluation and support of DOOR staff
- Build relationships with students, parents and other community stakeholders including local businesses, the Work Force Center and internship hosts.
- Responsible for ensuring mental health and other supports are in place to help high risk students move towards meaningful graduation and pursuit of their goals
- Work collaboratively with DOOR staff in the ongoing development of the program
- Responsible for the logistics and operations of DOOR
- Collaborate with local business and CMC in the development of internships and other programs to meet students individual career and academic plans
- Counsel and guide students through their ICAP process and in the Career and Post-Secondary planning
- An unwavering commitment to equity in education and a belief that all students can succeed
- Experience working with English language learners
- Experience with students on IEP’s
- Experience working with students living in poverty
- Experience with blended learning
- Understanding of competency based education models (21st Century Skills and P21 models)
- Qualified to drive a district vehicle with students to facilitate internships and service learning
- Grant Writing skills and experience
- Knowledge of best practices in alternative education
- Minimum of 3 years of work in alternative school settings.
- Skills: collaborating with teachers and administrators
- Track record of positively impacting student performance
- Experience with research based instructional and/or school culture practices
- Skill in using data to make instructional and/or school culture decisions
- Ability to understand and lead adult learners
- Instructional coaching or administrative experience
- Type D license and/or a willingness to obtain a Type D license
- Bilingual preferred
