Important Information from LCHS . . .
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The year is off to a great start. We are already making progress on many of our goals with our attendance rates well over 93%, our classes and academic focus are on point and students seem happy to reconnect with students and friends.
We were excited to welcome students back and to share some amazing news about our student’s academic performance last year. We saw across the board improvement in all assessments. Our 7-9th grade students showed exceptional growth. We saw massive improvement in the Academic Growth scores for our students who were tested on PARCC. Across every group and every grade we had a complete turnaround in terms of performance. We also see that the 8th grade rose even higher than their peers with exceptional growth scores. Their 90th percentile MGP in English Language Arts makes them one of the highest growing groups in the state. We are so proud of our students and teachers for these results and for the trend that we are on in terms of academic performance. The linked table below shows the students MGP’s from 2016 and 2017.
We are continuing to work hard to make our school culture focused and academic. Students need to be to school on time and students coming through the front doors after 8am are serving lunch detention that day.
Also, start planning and talking to your students about Sept 21st. On that day we will take the PSAT and SAT in grades 8-11. This will help them prepare for these important college readiness assessments in the spring and give Crew teachers and academic teachers, important data for working with you all and for planning instruction. The PSAT/SAT series has grade level appropriate assessments to help us know if students are on track as well as to plan how to best serve them instructionally. We will explain your individual student’s results at fall conferences.
Senior parent night will be Sept. 13th, 7-8pm in the auditorium. Watch your mail for a postcard. We look forward to working closely with senior parents as we plan for the important transition to post-secondary options. Please join us for this important night to kick off senior year.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday to view the partial solar eclipse. What an awe-inspiring event to share with so many of our community members! “You don’t need a classroom to learn the whole world is a classroom.”
Thanks so much for your partnership as we dive into the new school year,
