News from LCHS
Dear Parents and Families,
This last week before spring break was full with concerts, the start of spring sports and our student walk out. I was very proud of our Student Senate and their civic engagement. They organized a respectful event that honored the victims in Florida and did not disrupt our school day. I was also very proud of our students who chose not to participate. These students remained in class for their own reasons. Both groups of students showed courage and respect in their decisions. These are challenging times for our democracy as civic dialogue becomes increasingly rare and the division between political parties intensifies. It is my hope that our school can be a different kind of place where reasoned debate, respect for other points of view and real problem solving can flourish. To that end, if parents or community members have other ideas on events or approaches that would better help us fulfill our civic mission as a public school please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally.
We hope you all enjoy spring break and come back ready to finish the year strong. We are looking forward to strong track and field, and soccer seasons as well as supporting students in making a strong showing on the PSAT and SAT assessments. These exams will help them on their journey to college and other post-secondary options and we anticipate strong performances.
Thanks and have a wonderful break,
Mr. Cairns
