Getting Ready for Another Great Year at WPE!
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
I am so excited to begin the upcoming school year here at West Park Elementary! Your children are the most important resource in our community, and I am dedicated to making every day educational, rewarding, and meaningful for them.
If you are a returning student, you should have received a registration packet in the mail a few weeks ago. This has important back to school forms and directions to register on-line. In addition, you may make your orientation conference appointment on-line, this year, too! For new or returning students, please click here if you need for registration information.
As the principal of WPE, I want to invite you to contact me if you ever have any concerns or celebrations! I have been with the school district for 20 years, and am thrilled to be part of the important work done here. The most important work in our community happens at WPE! If you’d like to meet with me, please contact Lynette Fresquez at 719-486-6890, so that we can get together. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
This year we will continue our strong academic focus along with our core values of CREW and Habits of a Learner. Our staff is excited to create a strong community of curious learners and thoughtful crew members.
Orientation Conferences & Student Pictures –August 20th and 21st:
This is a special time to have a one on one meeting with your child’s teacher before school starts. We are using an online appointment system, which allows you the most flexibility since you know your family’s schedule the best!
During this orientation conference, you and your child will get to meet your teacher, become familiar with the classroom, ask the teacher any questions, and share with the teacher details about your child as an individual learner. This time allows us to get to know your child and get your questions answered without being rushed.
Please plan for about 30 – 45 minutes for this orientation conference.
Classroom assignments are carefully created by our staff each May to focus on a homogeneous mix of students to maximize the learning potential for each student.

Getting ready for a new school year
As you prepare your child for a new year, please talk about the wonderful and exciting learning opportunities they will encounter. Parents, please consider these helpful tips for a successful back to school transition:
- Keep consistent bedtimes and routines, especially in August. We recommend that most children get at least 10 hours of sleep each night.
- Practice school skills like waiting turns, using manners, asking questions, and using words when frustrated. School is a complex environment!
- Practice independence in using the bathroom, washing hands, eating complete meals, and keeping track of personal items.
- Read with and talk with your child as much as you can. The amount of words a child uses and hears helps them become readers.
Thank you for all of your support in the upcoming, exciting school year!
