Dear LCSD Staff:
Thanks for your patience as we work to navigate a fast-changing situation in our community and schools this week. After close coordination with Sheriff Speckman, we have decided collaboratively that our schools will remain closed, and all in-county district activities canceled, through Sunday, 9/15 to allow law enforcement to continue their investigation. We will work with Amy Peters (Athletic/Activities Director) on how we will handle away athletic games over the next few days, and those coaches and athletes will be contacted directly.
We will be working closely with law enforcement on appropriate next steps. The Sheriff’s Office also posts updates as they have them on their website. We encourage you to use the Sheriff’s Office website for updated information as it develops.
Principals will be sending meeting invites to school staff for virtual staff meetings that will take place today at 1pm to discuss plans for the remainder of the week.
While school is closed, these days are still paid work days. Staff are not required to report to work, however please remain available to connect virtually with your school teams during work hours so that we can continue to support learning in our schools. If you had a leave submitted to AESOP, those leaves will be removed to not deduct against your leave balance. Please let Kathleen know if you have PTO scheduled that you would like to keep as PTO (meaning you are not expected to be available during work hours).
You are welcome to go into the buildings today and tomorrow as long as exterior doors remain locked and the building stays secure. We will be communicating with families next with this information. Until you see the information for families on our website, please keep the communication in this email information as for staff only.
We will communicate with you during the weekend, and very much hope to be able to see you back in school on Monday depending on what the next few days bring and how law enforcement advises us.
Thanks for everything, and most importantly your ongoing flexibility,
Kate
