Lake County School District & Summit Community Care Clinic to Open School-Based Health Center this Fall
The Lake County School District and the Summit Community Care Clinic are excited to officially announce the opening of a school-based health center to serve LCSD students and staff beginning in the fall of 2015. The school-based health center (SBHC) will be located at Lake County High School and will serve any student in the district whose parent enrolls them in the program; LCSD staff will also be eligible for health services, as will the siblings and parents of any student enrolled in the SBHC. A SBHC brings healthcare providers into a school so students can avoid health-related absences and receive the support they need to succeed in the classroom. Services provided support physical, social/emotional and dental health needs, supporting the whole child.
SBHCs are staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of qualified medical and mental health professionals who provide health prevention and acute care services to students on an as needed basis. A Community Advisory Council including local healthcare providers, agencies and community members was created to support the SBHC planning process, and has been working diligently to move this project toward becoming a reality. The costs of operating the SBHC will be covered through grant funding and billing. The SBHC will accept Medicaid and all private insurance; uninsured patients will pay according to a sliding fee scale, and fees will never be a barrier to care. Patients will not have to pay a copay when visiting the SBHC.
