Outdoor Crew Experience – Logistics Coordinator


REPORTS TO: Community Learning Director; Outdoor Crew Experience Site Director

DAYS:  17 days during the 2020-2021 school year, anticipated August 10-September 4

Outdoor Crew Experience PROGRAM SUMMARY: Lake County School District (LCSD) is implementing an Outdoor Crew Experience (OCE) focused on social-emotional skills, personal well being, and nature-based experiences to support K-6th grade students in LCSDas they re-enter school after nearly 5 months without in-person instruction as a result of COVID-19. Students will be in “A” & “B” cohorts formed by splitting each teacher’s class int0 two established groups. For half of each day, M-Th, each group will be in their classroom with their teacher and for the other half of the day they will be engaged in the Outdoor Crew Experience with an OCE Crew Leader.

Logistics Coordinator POSITION SUMMARY: An Outdoor Crew Experience Logistics Coordinator is primarily responsible for implementing and supporting daily operations of the Outdoor Crew Experience including, but not limited to: transporting equipment to cohort sites, organizing materials, site set-up and take-down, and general maintenance of supplies. Additionally, the Logistics Coordinator will step in to provide breaks to Crew Leaders in the oversight and instruction of groups of 10-15, K-6th grade students (in grade-level groups), in daily outdoor activities such as: social-emotional and environmental education activities, nature exploration, and team building games/initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Systematically organize, maintain, set up, and take down each cohort’s “home base” site each day
  • Facilitate daily clean-up with Crew Leaders and Outdoor Crew Experience Director
  • Replenish and replace supplies as needed
  • Provide break coverage for Crew Leaders by overseeing student crews for short windows during which Logistics Coordinator will lead activities and curriculum for youth in what is similar to a “day-camp” setting
  • Maintain risk management protocols and situational awareness to ensure safe, well-supported experiences for students; monitor and support physical and psychological safety and comfort of students at all times, completing injury/accident report documentation, as required
  • Drive self, materials, and potentially students in LCSD vehicles
  • Maintain accurate program records, including gear checkout log, and other reporting
  • Capture photo and video media of activities
  • Adhere to LCSD Employee Policies
  • Participate in 4-day required, paid training
  • Other tasks as necessary to fulfill programming

Requires daily driving to supply groups; may require infrequent travel out of county (i.e. driving to Summit County to purchase additional supplies). Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and the appropriate level of personal vehicle insurance. 


  • Must be 18-years-old or older
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to anticipate, and take initiative to fulfill, logistics needs to support smooth program delivery
  • Sense of humor, resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility, and passion for connecting youth to the outdoors
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Exhibit core values of cultural awareness, inclusivity, compassion, integrity, healthy lifestyle choices, respect for others and the environment, and collaboration
  • Clearance of federal and state criminal background check
  • Must pass LCSD vehicle training
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED certification for Adults and Children through American Red Cross
    • *Note – this can be taken online prior to job start if a candidate does not hold a certification.
  • Satisfactory driving record and current driver’s license


  • Demonstrated ability to lead youth outdoors
  • Experience with logistics management
  • Experience with outdoor education, adventure education, and/or environmental education
  • Knowledge of the Lake County community, families, and schools
  • Spanish fluency

Must have the ability to safely restrain and physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities (child weighing 40 – 200 pounds). Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, including to load and unload vehicles. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and vision sufficient for driving. The employee will also be required to walk (hike) in uneven terrain, often carrying materials. The majority of this position’s work is conducted in the outdoor environment, where weather conditions may be varied and unpredictable.
