LCIS is seeking a Health Teacher for 2022-23!

Reports To: LCIS Principal

Length of Assignment: 179 contract days / follows LCSD Academic Calendar 

Salary: Follows Certified Teacher Salary Schedule 

Purpose of Position: This position will teach health education classes to students grades 3-6 and run supportive groups for students in collaboration with the mental health team. Working closely with the District Health Advisory Committee and the Healthy Schools Director, the position will assist in developing a district-wide health curriculum map. This work will be supported with resources and curricula provided by the district, relying on the Colorado Department of Education comprehensive health standards. Additionally, the position will support the mental health team by running groups and fostering a trauma informed school environment.

Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

• Delivers comprehensive health curriculum in a classroom setting, including age-appropriate, medically accurate comprehensive sexual health education, drug and alcohol prevention, and personal wellness, while maintaining a gradebook for all health classes adhering to LCIS’s grading policy.
• Follows evidence-based prescribed curriculum for social-emotional instruction with fidelity (i.e. Zones of Regulation, Second Step or other curricula approved by District).
• Plans intentional lessons demonstrated by: backwards design, curriculum map, weekly lesson plan.
• Collects and maintains evidence of student progress toward identified skills (evidence may include examples of student work, data tracking documents, exit tickets, behavior charts, discipline data, and student self-reflection).
• Meets regularly with the District Health Advisory Committee, the Healthy Schools Director, and other staff to ensure the process of integrating the health standards is inclusive, and influenced by the school community.
• Works with a team of Health Leads to develop a district wide curriculum map that meets the CDE Health Education standards.
• Documents any developed curriculum in a way that it can be easily handed down to a new team of teachers and maintained with fidelity.
• Supports the Healthy Schools Director and the District Health Advisory Counsel in coordinating the Comprehensive Human Sexuality Education grant at the 3-6 level by developing curriculum, training staff, and participating in youth and family engagement activities.
• Manages daily skill-building groups for students who have been referred by staff while maintaining accurate records. These groups might include healthy communication, friendship, self-advocacy, etc.
• Provides professional development to promote school-wide SEL initiatives including Collaborative Problem Solving and trauma informed discipline practices.
• Assists in the promotion of a positive school climate and follows school norms and expectations.
• Promotes a positive professional and ethical image of the school district, social emotional and behavioral-mental health supports and special education services.
• Encouraged to apply for Health Wellness Lead (stipended position) due to complementary work with this position’s purpose.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university
• Colorado Teaching License 
• Demonstrated competency in the classroom
• Comfort and familiarity teaching prevention education, including comprehensive health curriculum
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of family situations
• Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently
• Able to work both independently and as a part of a collaborative team
• Comfort in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Experience with educational systems and practices, such as MTSS, PBIS, and EL preferred
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Logistics:

• Create schedules collaboratively with the principal and other relevant staff; continuously revisit schedules with principals to refine and adjust as needed.
• 40 minute lunch
• 45 minute per day for planning  
• Teach four health classes per day
• Manage groups each day  
• Attend weekly professional learning community (PLC) 
• A work space will be provided; it may be shared, if needed
• Evaluated using appropriate CDE rubric per licensure if certified teacher
