Reports To: Cloud City High School Principal

Length of Assignment: 189 days per year; follows LCSD Calendar for 2024-2025 school year; begins ASAP – salary prorated for later start

Salary: Subject to Certified Teacher Salary Schedule.  Full benefits provided including PTO, Health, Dental and Vision insurance. This position is grant-funded for three years through the School Counselor Corps Grant with possibility of continuation through the school district’s work on sustainability. If an employee holds Counseling SSP, placement will be based from MA, Row E.  If an employee doesn’t hold Counseling SSP credentials, then they are placed on a certified schedule following typical rules. Salary is prorated to 189 days.

As a High School Counselor, you will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community to promote student success and well-being. You will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrations in supporting students in the areas of career and college readiness, social/emotional development, and academic success; serving as a resource; and delivering services within the framework of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success.

Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

• Provide individual and group counseling to students on a wide range of issues, including academic performance, personal development, mental health concerns, and college/career planning.
• Assess and group students to provide appropriate group therapeutic interventions.
• Collect and maintain evidence of student progress toward identified skills (evidence may include examples of student work, data tracking documents, discipline data, and student self-reflection).
• Participate in data collection and evaluation activities to measure the impact of interventions and supports, and to demonstrate the impact of the School Counselor Corps Grant. 
• Utilize evidence-based and best practices for the delivery of prevention and intervention strategies.
• Continually assesses qualitative and quantitative data to identify student support needs and measure the impact of interventions, in collaboration with school team members.
• Facilitate workshops and presentations with students and families on topics such as study skills, stress management, conflict resolution, and college and/or career readiness.
• Serve as a 1st Responder for student mental/behavioral health and social/emotional concerns, including performing suicide risk assessments as needed.
• Follows referral, intervention and support protocols to meet the most significant needs of all students, building upon common social/emotional, behavior, and academic goals to deliver services as appropriate.  
• Provide coordination or delivery of mental health minutes as designated on IEPs.
• Supports staff at team meetings to ensure that services are communicated and that teams deliver consistent structures and support for students. 
• Provides professional development to promote school-wide SEL initiatives including Collaborative Problem Solving and trauma informed discipline practices.
• Maintain records of contacts and actions taken with each student. 
• Participate on the District Counseling/Social Work team through monthly meetings. 
• Participates in family engagement efforts that support the social, emotional, and behavioral health of LCHS/CCHS students, including collaborating with parents for intervention and placement options. 
• Supports care coordination services and family outreach for students in need of or receiving outside therapeutic services.

• Participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, and events to promote a positive school climate and foster a culture of student success.
• Assists in the promotion of a positive school climate and follows school norms and expectations.
• Develop, implement and monitor student 504 plans on a regular basis.
• Promotes a positive professional and ethical image of the school district, social emotional and behavioral-mental health supports, and special education services.
• Support with coordination and proctoring of assessments/testing.
• Lead the Workforce Readiness instruction once a month and in crew including coordinating career industry tours and college visits/fairs.
• Support students and staff with the CEPA program, internships, scholarship night, college/SPWR culture, college application process, scholarships, and FAFSA.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Preference to candidates will be given in the following order: Colorado Counseling SSP license holder, Master’s Degree in School Counseling (and SSP Intern Authorization applied for), Teacher Certificate and actively enrolled in Counseling SSP program, for completion within three years.
• Bachelor’s Degree and Colorado Teaching certificate required; must be actively enrolled in Counseling SSP program, and completed within three years.
• Colorado Department of Education Counselor Endorsement (SSP) or actively enrolled in Counselor Master’s Degree program. Candidates can apply for Special Services Provider Stipend program if they wish. 
• Must be eligible for employment in the US and pass all background checks as required by LCSD.
• Experience working with and counseling students in a school setting is preferred.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of family situations is preferred.
• Experience with educational systems and practices are preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Logistics:

• Create schedules collaboratively with the principal and other relevant staff; continuously revisit schedules with principals to refine and adjust as needed.
• Flexibly adapts to the needs of the school, students, and concerns.
• Contract work day will consist of 8 hours with a minimum of 30 continuous minutes per day of a duty free lunch
• 225 minutes per week for planning  
• Student supervision duties will be required, such as lunch, gym, and weight room
• Student transportation will be required when needed
• Manage groups each day  
• A work space will be provided; it may be shared, if needed
• Evaluated using CDE School Counseling Rubric
