The Center Preschool is hiring a Special Education teacher!
Reports To: Preschool Director
Length of Assignment: Start January 6, 2025 = salary and benefits prorated; follows LCSD Academic Calendar
Salary: Paid according to the LCSD Certified Teacher Salary schedule plus EXCELLENT benefits – PTO, Medical, Vision, and Dental Benefits.
Primary purpose:
To create a flexible special education program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth for all learners; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. Facilitate quantitative assessment to determine learning disabilities, and diligently write Individualized Education Plans which help the learner achieve. Close monitoring of all special education provisions, laws, and requirements important, as well as Response to Intervention support.
Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with classroom teachers on implementation of IEP for all learners on caseload.
- Coordinates and provides services for preschool age children on an IEP within the preschool classroom and through small group instruction as appropriate.
- Sets and tracks progress on identified IEP goals.
- Participates and collaborates with the MTSS process as appropriate for PreK at the PreK level.
- Serves as behavior support at the preschool level, implements behavior plans.
- Collaborate with Early Head Start Home Visitor to serve as a resource for families regarding developmental needs of children under the age of 3 and assist with early intervention referrals for these families as needed.
- Conducts outreach and initial referrals and assessments required with determining early intervention needs and services including special education eligibility in collaboration with the Department of Early Childhood Education Early Intervention and Child Find.
- Assists with the transition process for children and families transition from Part C to Part B services, including evaluation if necessary and supporting preschool enrollment process.
- Assists with completion of required screenings for children enrolled in our program.
- Work closely with parents and families, at least to the minimum of the laws, to ensure excellent communication and clarity around student plans and services. .
- Communicates with parents through conferences , home visits, and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as appropriate.
- Provides coaching, support, and oversight to our Early Childhood Special Education paraprofessional.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Qualifications:
a. Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university
b. Colorado teaching certificate / ECSE special education endorsement -or actively enrolled in alternative licensure program
c. Experience with preschool students is preferred
