Board of Education Approves New District Calendar
The Board of Education has chosen GOLD as the final calendar! This is the calendar option that lengthens summer break, maintains 4-day weeks and includes 156 student contact days. The final survey results indicated the most community support for this option, and the Calendar Committee and the Board agreed!
The Calendar Committee, consisting of volunteer community members, parents, and LCSD staff, has completed a 10-week process to make a calendar recommendation to the Board of Education for the 2026-27 calendar. Throughout this process, community input was solicited in the form of surveys, meetings with youth-serving community partners, Student Senate engagement, research of other districts with similar demographics, and a final survey that was completed by students, staff, parents/guardians, and other community members.
In our Initial Survey, we heard the two main priorities were a longer summer and maintaining the 4-day week. There was also interest in seeing what a mix of 4 and 5-day weeks look like. Our Final Survey presented two calendars to the community. In the end, there were 483 survey respondents, and 75% of respondents were in favor of the GOLD calendar as indicated by one of the top two levels of support. After an internal analysis of comments regarding the likes and dislikes of the calendar, the Committee determined there was not enough data to support making additional changes to the current GOLD calendar.
The GOLD calendar was presented to the Board of Education on October 27, 2025. The Board unanimously voted in favor of adopting the GOLD calendar as is for the 2026-27 school year and the basic framework of the GOLD calendar (i.e. 156 total student contact days, 4-day weeks) for the following two years. Note: In order to meet the Colorado Department of Education requirements for instructional hours, 12 minutes of instructional time will need to be added each day at the high school level. LCHS and CCHS administrators will determine where and how these instructional minutes are added, in consultation with Building Leadership Teams.
Many thanks to the volunteer members of the Calendar Committee as well as all of the community members who took one or more of our surveys this fall!
