Hello Cloud City Families!
We hope you had a great Labor Day weekend! We are in our second week of our first Academic Intensive and we are noticing a lot of students coming in tardy and quite a few absences. If your student has a valid reason for their absence, please call the office at 719-486-6980. You can leave a message in Spanish if you call before 10am. Since being on time is a job skill, we take it very seriously here at Cloud City High School. Students must work on time management in their efforts to get ready for and arrive at school in order to be prepared to be successful in their futures. We have a “soft start” before each class where students can arrive up to 30 minutes ahead of schedule and take care of any personal needs they may have such as using the restroom, getting a snack, or checking in with friends. So, for example, students can arrive at 10am for Academic Block #1, but they will not be counted tardy until 10:30am. Once the class begins, we will lock the front door and not allow students to come in late and disrupt class. We have not implemented the policy for these first few weeks because we wanted students to become familiar with how they get to school and get their drive times figured out.
Beginning this coming week (September 13-16), we will begin to lock the front door once class has started. Students who are not on time will not be let in unless there is a valid excuse called into the office in advance.
Please call me with any questions you have about our tardiness policy.
