LCES & LCIS Hand, Foot and Mouth information from School Nurse ~6.10.25

Dear Parents and/or guardians,

We would like to make you aware that we have had confirmed cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth in your student’s school. We have been working with the Lake County Public Health Agency to make sure we are taking the proper steps in managing this. While this is inconvenient, per the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, it does not warrant closing the schools and/or classrooms. Custodians have been directed to prioritize disinfection in both schools.

The illness is usually not serious, but it is very contagious. It is a common illness that usually causes fever, mouth sores, and skin rash. There is no exclusion required for Hand, Foot and Mouth if your child does not have any other symptoms. However, if your child has a fever, blisters, is drooling uncontrollably, or is not able to take part in usual activities then we ask you to please keep them home until symptoms improve.  If you have further questions concerning Hand, Foot and Mouth disease, consult your healthcare provider or visit:

CDC Hand, Foot and Mouth

While we encourage you to send your students to school if they are feeling well, we recognize that you may choose to keep them at home. In this case, please let your school’s front office know that your child will be absent. We will keep you up to date as the situation evolves.
