LCES Family Communication 1/6/23
LCES Families,
Thanks for a great first week back from break. We have had a great week of learning and reviewing all the behavior expectations. Each grade level had a special community meeting this week in order to review expectations and help set students up for success going into the second semester of school.
Report cards were sent home in your students folder today. Be sure to look through this and reach out if you have any questions. We are so proud of all the great work our students have done first semester and the growth they are showing.
Acadience Reading Testing:
It is time for our Middle of the Year (MOY) Acadience Reading Testing. This is a mid-year check to see where your child is at with their reading. Here is the schedule for when crews will be testings:
Tuesday, January 10th: Mrs. Compean, Mrs. Saunders, Mrs. Reigle, and Mrs. Regan
Wednesday, January 11th: Mrs. Bridge, Ms. Perez, Ms. Rapke, and Ms. Frattolin
Thursday, January 12th: Mrs. Lenhard, Ms. Dressel, and Mrs. Kuehl
Thank you for helping us with this testing by ensuring your student is well rested and in school. We will share the results of this testing with families during our March Parent/Teacher Conferences.
HOWL’S Challenge:
We will be having a HOWLs dollar challenge for the month of January. The crew from each grade level that has earned the most amount of HOWLs dollars in January will get a popcorn and movie party reward on February 2nd. Please continue to encourage good behavior from your student each and every day and remind them of our 8 HOWLs: Collaboration, Respect, Responsibility, Craftsmanship, Compassion, Perseverance, Curiosity, and Creativity.
Parent Engagement Team:
We hosted our first parent engagement team meeting this past week and had some great ideas generated. We will be hosting a second opportunity for parents to come in for this meeting on Tuesday, January 10th from 12-1 in the school library. Please feel free to join us to hear about what we are working on to increase parent involvement and to share your ideas and feedback in this area.
Volunteers Needed:
- Would you like to give some of your time to help prepare activities for students to use in the classroom? We are in need of several volunteers to come in to help make copies, laminate, and cut out literacy activities for students to use in the classroom. If you are interested in helping, please contact Analy or Marissa in the front office to schedule a time to come in. Thanks for your willingness to help!
- Do you have an interest in helping organize and host our second annual Joy of Reading Literacy night? We are looking for several parents and community volunteers who are willing to be a part of the planning team. If you are interested in joining this team, please reach out to Katie Pongrekun at kpongrekun@lakecountyschools.net.
Clothes Donations:
Students might have an accident and need undergarments, maybe spilled food on themselves, and we can help them get changed and cleaned up so they can be clean throughout the rest of the school day. For that, we need to have some emergency supplies at the school.
If you or anyone you know would like to donate, we are in need of pants sizes 5-10 for girls and boys. Pants are our highest need but we can use and appreciate anything we can get. Thank you all for your support!
Thank you all for a great week. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
This testing window is Jan. 9, 2023 through Feb. 10, 2023 and schools will begin testing for our English Language Learners next week.
Please contact me if you have questions.
