LCES Family Communication 1/12/2023
LCES Families,
It has been a great week at LCES. Our Acadience Reading test has been going well. If your child was absent this week, we will be having make-up testing time on Tuesday and Wednesday of this coming week. Please help us get 100% of students tested by ensuring your child is in school. We will be sharing these test results with families at our parent teacher conferences in March. We will also be using these results to help us identify skills that your student needs additional support in during our daily intervention time in classrooms. If you have questions or would like ideas for how you can help support your child in their reading, please reach out to me, Katie Pongrekun at kpongrekun@lakecountyschools.net. I would be happy to help put together resources for you to use at home.
Please remember we have no school on Monday, January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King Day. We do have school on Friday, January 20th.
HOWL’S Challenge Update:
We will be having a HOWLs dollar challenge for the month of January. The crew from each grade level that has earned the most amount of HOWLs dollars in January will get a popcorn and movie party reward on February 2nd. Please continue to encourage good behavior from your student each and every day and remind them of our 8 HOWLs: Collaboration, Respect, Responsibility, Craftsmanship, Compassion, Perseverance, Curiosity, and Creativity.
Parent Engagement Team:
We had two very successful parent engagement team meetings this past two weeks. We are working on posting ways that parents and community members can come in to volunteer on a more regular basis. Please be looking for these opportunities in our weekly communication and posted in the building. Here are two current opportunities that we have now:
Volunteers Needed:
- Would you like to give some of your time to help prepare activities for students to use in the classroom? We are in need of several volunteers to come in to help make copies, laminate, and cut out literacy activities for students to use in the classroom. If you are interested in helping, please contact Analy or Marissa in the front office to schedule a time to come in. Thanks for your willingness to help!
- Do you have an interest in helping organize and host our second annual Joy of Reading Literacy night? We are looking for several parents and community volunteers who are willing to be a part of the planning team. If you are interested in joining this team, please reach out to Katie Pongrekun at kpongrekun@lakecountyschools.net.
Thank you all for a great week. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
This testing window is Jan. 9, 2023 through Feb. 10, 2023 and schools will begin testing for our English Language Learners next week.
Please contact me if you have questions.
