LCES Family Communication 2/3/23
LCES Families,
Thank you for another great week at LCES. It was fun to be in classrooms this week seeing students read and share their thoughts on the stories with other students. I also enjoyed reading the persuasive writing that our 2nd graders completed asking me to make their favorite food the daily choice at lunch. Students came up with great reasons and ideas and presented them in well-written paragraphs. It is fun to see our students grow in both reading and writing.
Bringing Valuables to School: We have noticed an increase in students coming to school with valuables and toys. We ask that you please do not allow your child to bring valuables or toys to school. While we work hard to teach our students responsibility and kindness, there are times that these objects get misplaced or taken by someone else. They also become a distraction to the learning. We also ask that you please put your child’s name on their belongings so that when items do go missing or are misplaced we can get them back to the owner. Thanks so much for helping us with this.
Valentine’s Day: On Tuesday, February 14th we will be having Valentine’s Day Celebrations. Parents/Guardians are invited to attend their student’s Panther Day Celebration during specials in the gym and are also welcomed to their student’s classroom celebration.
- Kindergarten: Panther Day begins in the gym at 1:35. Classroom celebrations begin at 2:20.
- First Grade: Classroom celebrations begin at 1:45. Panther Day in the gym follows and will begin at 2:25.
- Second Grade: Panther Day begins in the gym at 12:45. Classroom celebrations begin at 1:30.
If you are expecting to be there, please email your child’s teacher to let them know you are planning on coming.
Students are allowed to bring a friendship Valentine’s card for every student in their class. Store bought wrapped treats are allowed, we just ask you to reach out to your student’s teacher to see if there are any allergies. Due to confidentiality reasons, we are unable to share class lists and names of students. See the number of students in each class below:

100th Day of School Celebration: We are nearing our 100th day of school this year and want to celebrate 100 days of hard work and learning our students have done. On February 22nd, students can bring 100 items to school and/or dress like they are 100 years old. We are excited to see the creative things students will come up with for this day.

Lake County Stakeholders:
Please forward and share through your organizations and networks.
Colorado Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households have been getting an extra amount of benefits every month because of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. These extra benefits are called “Emergency Allotments or Max Allotments” and most households have been getting them in addition to their regular SNAP benefits. These Emergency Allotments were authorized by Congress, but they are temporary, and will be ending at the end February 2023, because of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023. We fully understand that this Federal policy decision to reduce SNAP benefits will hit some Lake County households particularly hard.
How is Lake County Government Responding?
Lake County government will be providing ARPA funds to provide financial assistance to all SNAP households in Lake County. The following days are designated for SNAP head of households to come to the Lake County Department of Human Services (annex building) offices to receive this financial assistance on Wednesday, March 1 from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM and Friday, March 10 from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM.
All SNAP household members can call the Lake County Department of Human Services if they have questions, by dialing 719-486-2088.
This information will be available in the coming weeks on the County Website, flyers posted around the community, within the Herald Democrat, and through direct mailing. Please share this information with your clients. If you have questions, please email Janeen McGee at Janeen.McGee@state.co.us or Tim Bergman at tbergman@co.lake.co.us
What is SNAP?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income households in Colorado purchase food. It provides a monthly benefit that helps families and individuals buy the food they need for good health. SNAP is part of a federal nutrition program to help low-income households purchase food.
Thank you for your continued support to our community and SNAP households,
Sarah Mudge
