It was an exciting and fun week at LCES! Dr. Seuss Spirit week is always fun to celebrate reading, books, and Dr. Seuss\u2019 birthday. Students enjoyed the spirit days and reading by flashlight in the gym. Enjoy a few fun pictures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week is Spring Break at Lake County School District. School will be closed from Friday, March 6 to Friday, March 13. We will reopen on Monday, March 16 and look forward to seeing students back in the building. IXL: <\/strong>Friendly reminder about IXL. Using IXL during Spring Break would be a great way to keep your students engaged and learning while at home or while traveling. This research backed platform has been proven to increase academic achievement in literacy and math and is a great tool to use. March Panther HOWL (Habit of Work & Learning) Focus: Perseverance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the month of March, we will celebrating the HOWL of Perseverance.  Perseverance means, \u201cI can stick with things even when I\u2019m tired, frustrated, or challenged.\u201d The Student of the Month for each crew will be announced at our next community meeting on March 26th.  If your student is chosen by their teacher, we will reach out at the beginning of that week to let you know!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Semester 2 Attendance Challenge: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The semester 2 attendance challenge is here!  This semester, K-2 students who have 1 or fewer absences will have the opportunity to attend a Rockies baseball game in Denver at Coors Field on May 20th!  We will be checking attendance from Jan 5th-April 30th to see who qualifies.  Families will be notified if your student has earned this opportunity the week of May 4th. Students may opt out of attending if parents so choose (Opt out deadline: May 6th).  As the event gets closer, we will share more details so check this section regularly for updates!  Please note LCIS is doing an attendance reward at this Rockies game as well so please look for specific information from LCIS in their parent communication as the criteria is slightly different between schools.  Make sure your student is present at school every day as long as they are healthy in order to earn this opportunity!  We are so excited for this special event! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOWLs Challenge: <\/strong>We are excited to announce our quarter 3 HOWLs challenge!  Your student will try to earn as many HOWL Dollars as they can by March 23rd for the chance to tie dye a t-shirt with the principals at the end of the quarter!  The top four HOWL dollar earners in each class will win.  If your student wins, we will send home a paper parent communication in their backpack.  You will also receive a text message from the front office. Students can earn HOWL Dollars by showing any of our HOWLs to any staff member in the school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello Families,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are having issues with your PowerSchool app, please let me know, we are working to fix the issue<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you need your 2025 Tax Statement for child care payments, please reach out to me directly, I will complete and get these to you within a week of the request.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please remember school starts at 9:00, if your child will be dropped off after 9:30 please call the front office (719-486-6890) or Marissa (719-427-7075), so we can make sure we include them in meal counts for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have seen an increase in illness in preschool over the last week.  To help during this cold and flu season focus on proper handwashing with your preschooler at home. We follow the \u201cHow Sick is Too Sick\u201d guidelines for illness, your child could be sent home for symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, throwing up, not able to participate in daily activities, etc. Children can be at school if they have been symptom free for 24 hours without medication.  If you need to call your child in for the day please call the front office (719-486-6890) or Marissa (719-427-7075),<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family Engagement Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring break may bring many different activities for families.  Here are a few activity ideas of things you can do together with your preschooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Make a Mask!\u00a0 – These are always fun for kids!\u00a0 Grab a paper plate or some fabric for materials. Design however you like and decorate.\u00a0 Remember to cut some eye holes so that it can be worn and used.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Read a Book! – Reading together is always a great activity!\u00a0 Read a tried and true favorite or try a new book.\u00a0 A visit to the library could be a fun way to spend the afternoon together.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Build a Fort! – Create your own fort at home using pillows, blankets, chairs, the table, whatever you can find! Add a flashlight and a little bit of adventuring.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        1. Play with playdough – Playdough is a great tool for building fine motor skills and strengthening your child\u2019s hands.\u00a0 Add some cookie cutters or get creative with your own ideas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Menus can be found in your child\u2019s yellow folder at the end of each month or in our main entrance vestibules!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
