News From LCHS 11/12/21
Dear LCHS Parents & Guardians,
This week, we spent time celebrating our many students who have been excelling in the classroom this year. We have 79 students in the Junior High with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and we have 108 students in the High School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The vast majority of students are working hard, focused on their learning, and demonstrating our HOWLs (Habits of Work and Learning) in tangible ways. I’m proud of our students for their grit and commitment.
There are so many great things happening in our school community. Students are finding ways to engage in the many extracurricular activities that we offer. As you talk to your child about what to get involved in, you can reference this list.
We also have several unique events going on this upcoming week. Students will be taking the Health Kids Colorado Survey. Coffee Talk will be on Thursday evening at 7:30, and we’re in the middle of our hiring process to determine our new principal. Details on each of those are below.
Thanks for your support, and as always, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Best,
Erin Dillon
LCHS Interim Principal
6th-8th Grade Games at LCIS:
We have decided to make some changes with attendance at our 6-8 games at LCIS. Given the age of our students we are going to require that all students attending the game are with an adult. If students arrive without an adult they will not be allowed to attend the games at LCIS. We are making this change to ensure more supervision and that everyone is being safe and respectful at all times.
Health Kids Colorado Survey
On Nov 17 and 18, our students will take the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS). It is an important survey about student health and behavior. The survey will ask students about health topics including: exercise, diet, alcohol, tobacco, drug use, mental health, suicide, bullying, sexual behaviors, and how they have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey also asks students about school-life, school safety, trusted adult relationships, and other things known to be connected with healthy choices. Students will receive the survey during class time (either in-person or virtually) and are instructed to answer the questions or leave the survey blank. Students who are not completing the survey will do other schoolwork during the survey time. Here is an overview of the survey in English and in Spanish. These are the actual survey questions for 9-12th graders and for 7-8th graders. If you do not want your child to participate in this survey, you may fill out this form or you may print, sign, and return this letter to the front office.
Coffee Talk, Thursday @ 7:30pm
Come to the LCHS on Thursday, November 18th at 7:30pm to have informal conversation with Erin Dillon about what’s happening at the high school this year. You will get the chance to ask questions and hear about topics of interest. Interpretation will be provided, as well as light refreshments.
Principal Hiring Process
On Friday, November 19th, our finalists in the LCHS Principal Hiring process will participate in additional interviews. Community members are invited to participate and give feedback. More details will be coming soon. Please be on the lookout for that communication.
Family Learning Institute
We will be offering a family learning institute each month and all students and families are invited to attend! The sessions will be held at LCES.
Complimentary Webinar: School Refusal
This virtual event is for parents of school-age children grades fifth to 12th, who are seeking solutions for youth demonstrating school refusal, poor academic performance and learning disabilities in combination with complex psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral health issues related to anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, executive functioning disorder, trauma, and family conflict.
When you think you’ve tried everything, are feeling overwhelmed and not sure how to help your child, this event will clarify the inter-related complexities of mental health issues, social isolation, and poor academic performance.
