COVID Exposure at LCHS
Dear families of a HS Concert Choir member,
A student or staff member in the HS Concert Choir has been diagnosed with COVID. Your student(s) may have been exposed on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
As part of this health investigation:
- The person diagnosed is being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
- The person’s activities when they could have spread COVID were assessed.
- The people who may have been exposed to COVID are encouraged to monitor their symptoms.
Because it is impossible to assess all interactions in a choir room, all participants are considered possible exposures. Your child was identified as being in the same space as the person diagnosed with COVID-19, so your child should monitor his/her health for the full 14 days after exposure. Your child does not need to quarantine unless he/she begins having COVID symptoms. However, because your child was possibly exposed, extra caution in interactions with others and actively monitoring for COVID symptoms is exceptionally important. Have your child tested for COVID five to seven days following exposure, per Lake County Public Health Agency (LCPHA) recommendation. All other family members can continue their regular activities.
If your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID:
- Seek medical care and/or testing for COVID as appropriate, calling your doctor before you show up.
- Keep your child home from school and avoid activities around other people.
- Notify the school.
- LCPHA strongly recommends vaccinating as protection for future exposures for those 12 years and older who are eligible.
You may choose to have your child tested for COVID 5-7 days after they were around the person with COVID, even if your child does not have symptoms. A negative test result does not mean that your child will not develop symptoms or become sick after the test. A negative test result means that your child did not have COVID detected at the time of testing. At this time, free drive-up testing is available at St. Vincent Medical Center/Urgent Care (719-486-0230). Call for more details. Please confirm if there is a cost at the time you make an appointment. We can also test your student here in the high school front office. Your student will need to have the written permission slip signed.
If you have further questions, please contact Kim Sheen 719-293-0975 ksheen@lakecountyschools.net or your local public health agency.
Thank you again for your partnership during this time.
Sincerely,
The Lake County School District
