COVID Exposure at LCHS
Dear families of a student at Lake County High School,
A student or staff member in Lake County High School has been diagnosed with COVID and your student was possibly exposed as of Monday December 6th and Tuesday December 7th.
As part of this health investigation:
- The person diagnosed is being kept home from school until they are no longer infectious.
- The person’s activities when they could have spread COVID in school were assessed.
- The people who were close contacts of the person with COVID will be provided notice with recommendations from Public Health on next steps.
- The people who may have been exposed to COVID are encouraged to monitor their symptoms.
Because it is impossible to assess all interactions in a school, all classroom members are considered possible exposures. Your child was identified as being in the same space as the person diagnosed with COVID-19, so your child should monitor his/her health for the full 14 days after exposure. Your child does not need to quarantine unless he/she begins having COVID symptoms. However, because your child was possibly exposed, extra caution in interactions with others and actively monitoring for COVID symptoms is exceptionally important. Have your child tested for COVID three to five days following exposure, per Lake County Public Health Agency (LCPHA) recommendation. All other family members can continue their regular activities.
If your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID:
- Seek medical care and/or testing for COVID as appropriate, calling your doctor before you show up.
- Keep your child home from school and avoid activities around other people.
- Notify the school.
- LCPHA strongly recommends vaccinating as protection for future exposures for those 12 years and older who are eligible.
You may choose to have your child tested for COVID a week after they were around the person with COVID, even if your child does not have symptoms. A negative test result does not mean that your child will not develop symptoms or become sick after the test. A negative test result means that your child did not have COVID detected at the time of testing. At this time, free testing is available at St. Vincent Family Health Center (719-486-0230). Please confirm if there is a cost at the time you make an appointment. There are also free testing sites in Summit County and more information may be accessed at https://www.summitcountyco.gov/1324/Testing.
If you have further questions, please contact Kim Sheen 719-293-0975 ksheen@lakecountyschools.net or your local public health agency.
Thank you again for your partnership during this time.
Sincerely,
Erin Dillon
