News From LCHS 4/15/22
Good morning Lake County Panthers,
We have reached the end of another great week at Lake County High School. State Testing is well on its way to being completed successfully, thanks to you and your students’ cooperation. On our school’s path to Greatness several common themes continue to pop in my head. The first is the concept of kindness. This came to my mind when speaking with some of our young men and women on this campus. It is obvious that many of our students are dealing with lingering trauma from the pandemic. It seems as though the cure for this trauma is kindness. As the adult role models on this campus and in this community it is our responsibility to approach our students and each other with kindness, and compassion. If we learn to do this better, I believe we can move past this trauma if we all work together.. The other theme that has come to mind throughout these last two weeks is that of personal responsibility. All too often these days, people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. This includes taking responsibility for the direction their life is taking. One of the keyways, I see this applying to our school is in the fact that students do not always see how their actions today will greatly affect their future, and the understanding that most of the responsibility for that lies at their feet. It is our job as a community to support them, and mentor them, but most importantly to serve as role models of correct and acceptable behavior.

Gemma Helgura and Desmond Sandoval have spent this school year working with a team of medical mentors at the SPRI clinic in Vail (the top orthopedic clinic in the nation!) to complete a medical research project. Not only did they collect ACL grafts from a real human cadaver to analyze their strength, but they presented their findings in front of a room full of doctors, including the founders of the clinic! They were truly impressive – a professional and cohesive team
