News From LCHS 5/11/24
Dear LCHS Community,
As we continue into the month of May we have a lot of different events and activities coming up. This past week, we had the opportunity to celebrate our incredible educators. They are working hard to prepare for the end of the year, prepare students for finals, celebrate student successes, and develop interesting opportunities for the last two weeks of school.
9-12 Finals
On Wednesday, May 29th and Thursday, May 30th our 9-12 students will be taking their course finals. This means that students have the next two weeks to wrap up their classes. The finals schedule is copied below. Please note that these will be early release days for 9-12 students.
If a student/family is requesting an approved alternative final the request must be submitted by Wednesday, May 22nd . The semester 2 approved alternative final date will be Friday, June 7th starting at 8:30AM. For students who may need to take their finals at different time, families must meet with the administration team to present their request and discuss next steps. The final decision will be made by the administration team and communicated to the family. These decisions will be approved on a very limited basis. In the case of medical emergencies, a doctor’s note and/or meeting may be required. Not following these procedures could result in a zero for the final exam portion of the students final grade. The request form is available in the front office and available here in English and Spanish. Please call the front office at 719.486.6950 for more information.
7/8 Finals
Junior High finals will be held in two parts. Elective and enrichment courses will have finals on Wednesday, May 29th and Thursday, 30th. Core content classes will have finals on Wednesday, June 12th and Thursday, June 13th. For the core content finals, we will communicate information as we get closer to that date.
J-Term
This year, we are looking to reimagine the last two weeks of school to engage students in a different way. Although attendance and grading are still in place, this will look different than the rest of the school year and will vary across grade levels. It is our hope that we can provide students with unique and engaging learning opportunities. We are working to provide opportunities for teachers to teach other things they are interested in and continue to help students explore careers and different pathways. It is important to note that these last two weeks are required and will count towards attendance, grading, and credits. Please note there may be some various releases that are needed for these experiences.
7/8: Junior High students will have normal core classes in the morning with various activities each afternoon. We also will include a move-up day for 6-8 students and an Environmental Science day.
9: All 9th graders will participate in a two-week exploratory session provided by Colorado Mountain College. Students will rotate through four different career pathways: fire science, health science, construction trades, and Outdoor Recreation Leadership/Ski-Area Operations. During the first week, they will be at CMC Leadville working directly with CMC faculty and exploring local offerings. The second week they will travel to various CMC campuses and job sites to engage in experiential activities. This program is designed for student exposure to career pathways.
10/11: 10th and 11th grade students will have a selection of courses that our LCHS teachers are offering. They will explore various topics and connections to post-secondary options.

Hiring committee Elementary principal stakeholder feedback sessions
Are you interested in participating in the Lake County Elementary School principal hiring process? We are looking for stakeholders of staff, parents and community members to engage in this process. We anticipate running a process similar to that of the high school principal, in which candidates will rotate through interviews with different stakeholder groups and provide feedback. If you would like to be involved, we would appreciate that you use this form to sign up. We anticipate the stakeholder interview sessions to be held the week of May 13-17. We intend to follow this event up with a staff and community meet and greet of finalists that would be open to the public the week of May 20th
