Hopefully you found that connecting with teachers and learning more about your students\u2019 academic progress, talking over concerns and enjoying celebrations was meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>Our <strong>attendance goal<\/strong> for the year is <strong>95%<\/strong> attendance.\u00a0 Right now, our HS attendance rate is 93.25% and our 7\/8 attendance rate is 95%.\u00a0 This is a huge improvement from our historic rates.\u00a0 We will engage in various attendance competitions between now and Winter break to celebrate our hard working students who are here every day.\u00a0 Additionally, like last year we will not be doing any excused absences to extend a break.\u00a0 All absences connected to Thanksgiving and Winter break will need to be unexcused absences.\u00a0 <strong>Finals<\/strong> for all students will occur <strong>the last two days of the semester<\/strong> and <strong>students must attend<\/strong> to take their finals.\u00a0 Families should set up a meeting with Mr. Cairns with specific questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News from the Counseling Office:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SAT retake <\/strong>is<strong> full <\/strong>for the<strong> November 4<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>If you are planning to <strong>retake the SAT<\/strong> you need to <strong>get registered now for December 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in Salida<\/strong> or wait until next year in March.\u00a0 If you <strong>need help<\/strong> registering please come <strong>see Mrs. Kerrigan.<\/strong> The counseling department can transport the first 7 who sign-up for that day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>November 6<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> the counseling department will be taking <strong>sophomores<\/strong> only to <strong>Western State College<\/strong> in Gunnison.\u00a0 We will depart the high school at 8:15 am and arrive back by 5:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>Friday, December 8<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> the counseling department will be taking high school students to a <strong>college visit in Denver<\/strong>.\u00a0 They will visit Regis University and Metro State University.\u00a0 First 40 students to sign up may attend.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Becca Katz is recruiting a team of enthusiastic <strong>parent volunteers<\/strong> to support <strong>7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade <\/strong>fieldwork (<strong>outdoor, hands-on learning<\/strong>) opportunities on various dates throughout the school year. Please <strong>reach out to Becca Katz by November 3<sup>rd<\/sup> \u2013 <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:bkatz@lakecountyschools.net\"><strong>bkatz@lakecountyschools.net<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0\/ 719-293-5169<\/strong> \u2013 if you want to learn more about how you can support 7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade fieldwork (outdoor, hands-on learning) at LCHS!<\/p>\n<p>Michele DeWine invites parents to <strong>volunteer for Jr. High Science Fieldwork <\/strong>on<strong> November 7<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>and<strong> 8<sup>th<\/sup>,<\/strong> day trips, from 8 am to 4pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Standards based Fieldwork includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fire ecology <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Building a fire<\/li>\n<li>Cooking on a fire<\/li>\n<li>Flame tests in the fire (periodic table)<\/li>\n<li>Fire ecology<\/li>\n<li>Prescribed burn<\/li>\n<li>Human impact<\/li>\n<li>Orienteering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major State Standards covered: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical and Chemical change<\/li>\n<li>Physical and Chemical properties<\/li>\n<li>The Law of Conservation of Mass, Energy..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will need parent supervision assistance, with lunch, and walking around from site to site.
