{"id":10198,"date":"2018-03-01T14:05:02","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T21:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakecoschools.wpengine.com\/lchs\/?p=10198"},"modified":"2018-03-01T14:05:02","modified_gmt":"2018-03-01T21:05:02","slug":"news-from-lchs-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakecountyschools.net\/lchs\/2018\/03\/01\/news-from-lchs-18\/","title":{"rendered":"News from LCHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>As a school we prioritize safety.\u00a0 We regularly conduct lock down drills, fire drills, and evacuation drills<\/strong>.\u00a0 We do this so, in the incredibly unlikely event of a real emergency, our staff and students know how to react in ways that will keep them safe.\u00a0 In light of the recent tragic events in Florida, we wanted to let you know that we will continue this practice.\u00a0 We don\u2019t want parents or students to be needlessly alarmed, but will go forth with an <strong>unannounced lockdown drill sometime in the next two weeks<\/strong>.\u00a0 We will clearly indicate that it is a drill, but want our students to continue to have this <strong>important practice and reflection on safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We have a high school student, <strong>Cormac O\u2019Harrow, coming from DC<\/strong> to intern this summer with the Herald Democrat.\u00a0 His father is a reporter for the Washington Post and he is excited to live here this summer and work in Leadville.\u00a0 <strong>Please reach out directly to Robert at <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:Robert.OHarrow@washpost.com\"><strong>Robert.OHarrow@washpost.com<\/strong><\/a><strong> if your family has a room he could rent during the summer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coffee with the principal<\/strong>\u2014Next week on <strong>March 7<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>, we would love to invite parents to come have <strong>coffee with Mr. Cairns, 8:00 am \u2013 9:00 am, LCHS cafeteria<\/strong>.\u00a0 We will have some coffee and Mr. Cairns will make a few <strong>comments on<\/strong> some of the <strong>instructional focuses at the HS<\/strong>.\u00a0 Parents will then be invited to <strong>walk classrooms for about 20 minutes<\/strong> and then <strong>debrief<\/strong> what they saw.\u00a0 Our goal is to <strong>build<\/strong> some <strong>community amongst parents<\/strong> as well as <strong>deepen parent understanding<\/strong> about our instructional approaches in the HS.\u00a0 The <strong>March 7<sup>th<\/sup> Coffee<\/strong> with the principal will be in <strong>English<\/strong>, we will do it again in <strong>Spanish on March 14<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Mike Vagher<\/strong> will host the <strong>Spring sports preseason <\/strong>parents\/athletes\/coaches <strong>meeting<\/strong> on <strong>Monday, March 5<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> in the <strong>LCHS cafeteria<\/strong> at <strong>6pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Is your <strong>student<\/strong> looking for<strong> summer outdoor job, internship<\/strong>, or <strong>credit-bearing volunteer opportunity<\/strong>? Please join<strong> Get Outdoors Leadville!<\/strong> and <strong>partners<\/strong> on <strong>March 6<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> in the <strong>LCHS<\/strong><strong> cafeteria<\/strong> for a <strong>Family Information Night<\/strong> to learn about opportunities and help your student get enrolled. <strong>Parental involvement<\/strong> is required in the application process (either on the Family Information Night or through individual meetings) \u2013 so this is a great opportunity to take care of it! <strong>Stop by on the hour<\/strong> at <strong>4pm, 5pm, or 6pm<\/strong>.
