{"id":11809,"date":"2021-01-14T12:52:57","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T19:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lakecountyschools.net\/lchs\/?p=11809"},"modified":"2021-01-14T14:47:14","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T21:47:14","slug":"news-from-lchs-106","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakecountyschools.net\/lchs\/2021\/01\/14\/news-from-lchs-106\/","title":{"rendered":"News from LCHS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reminder: Friday, January 22nd, school <em>IS<\/em> in session for A-day students (due to Monday holiday)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Families,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As our country goes through a challenging time, it is nice to have a day to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\u00a0 Our hope as a school, is that we can be what King called the \u201cbeloved community\u201d where students have relationships, work through differences and interact peacefully with one another.\u00a0 His example of progress through non-violence is a good reminder to our students of a great American hero.\u00a0 We are grateful for his life and legacy and aim to live out the ideas he espoused in our crews, on our sports teams and in our school.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks so much for all you are doing to support your students.\u00a0 This semester is off to a strong start.\u00a0 Our school-wide average GPA is a full point higher that last semester.\u00a0 We think that students getting to see teachers on their home day and the induvial support and work time seems to be correcting some of the challenges students faced last semester.\u00a0 While there are issues, our main goal of kids having more academic support and more support in their work time seems to be paying off.\u00a0 Let\u2019s keep it up and keep working hard.\u00a0 Nothing is ideal in the pandemic, but seeing students start out with stronger grades and attendance is very encouraging.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karate classes began last week for all different age groups, including a high school girls\u2019 group and an adult group. Practices are in the evenings and it is a great activity to get kids out during COVID. Class sizes are small and COVID precautions are taken very seriously, including mask wearing, taking temperatures, and health screener. If any families or students are interested, please email the teacher, Miss Becky at <a href=\"mailto:beckyjoyedwards@gmail.com\">beckyjoyedwards@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Does your child or another student you know need support? <\/strong>If you think your child or one of their friends could use support from an adult at school, do not go without saying something. We don\u2019t want anyone to suffer in silence. Please complete this confidential and anonymous <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfYqdYKS1iL1Vvo7FeoEOAbSg1UAIbspL90NucDFZwk3jJVAA\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">referral form<\/a><\/strong> and an adult at school will work to ensure the student gets the support needed.
