LCSD Kinder-6th Grades Learning At Home
Hello LCIS & WPE Families!
Please know that our most sincere hope for our students and their families is that everyone is staying physically and mentally healthy during this unprecedented disruption to our daily lives. We know it is difficult for all of you to plan for the days and weeks ahead, but please know that we are doing all that we can to support the students and families of Lake County while adhering to the governmental recommended standards for COVID-19.
Each grade level, specials, and special education team will be meeting via internet this week to design a plan to advance and maintain the education of our students. In the coming days, your child’s crew teacher will be reaching out to the families of each of their students to check in and offer details of this plan. The caller ID for these phone calls may not be available. If you notice a call repeatedly coming in from an unknown number, please answer it as this may be your child’s crew teacher
Starting on Monday next week students in grades K-6th grades will have packets of pertinent work that they should complete at home and students in grades 7-12 will utilize online learning via google classroom. At-home early elementary learning will range between 2 and 2 ½ hours of activities. For grades 3-6, at-home activities will be within 3 hours of work, and the number increases beyond grade 6. These at home activities are NOT a full, on-line curriculum experience. They are designed by our educators to provide stimulation, review, and extension related to this year’s learning. We want all of our students to be able to successfully access these activities, and so we are not relying on technology or direct family instruction for them to be completed.
Packets for all students K-6 will be available for pick up beginning at 8:00am on Monday 3/30 at the front entrance of LCIS. Tables will be set up with boxes labeled by grade levels. Please take the two weeks’ worth of packets for your child/children. We will also have addition materials available, such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, crayons etc. Please only take what you need for your child. These materials will be available around the clock for the week. If you are not able to pick up these materials at this location, please contact your child’s crew teacher.
LCSD is continuing the breakfast and lunch distribution at Lake Fork MHP, Village at East Fork MHP, Mountain View West MHP, Mountain View East MHP, and at Lake County High School beginning at 11:30 each day. These brown bag meals are available to anyone in Lake County ages 18 and under. If you are unable to obtain the sack breakfast/lunch from any of these locations, please call us ASAP at 719-486-6830.
Finally, please pass along all of the information in this e-mail to your friends and neighbors. We may not have current contact information for all of our students and it is vital that we all remain in communication.
Please stay healthy and positive while we all work through these challenges together.
