LCIS SNSO 9-6-20
Hello LCIS Families,
Congratulations on making it through the first week of school! It was truly a start like no other. Many thanks for all of your help with keeping your child organized with their materials and getting them to school on the correct day. We will get an extra day off this weekend to prepare for the coming week as we have no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
Thank you for remembering to send you child with their face covering and their completed health screener. Your child will receive more blank health screeners so that you can continue to ensure their health prior to sending them school.
Please remember that your child must complete their remote work on the days that they are not in school. If your child attends the 2nd Day Supports Program with 100 Elk Outdoor Center, they will have time to work on their assignments during the day. The completed work must be returned to school as this work counts toward your child’s attendance on the remote learning days.
Students who attend LCIS 100% virtually need to log in every day according to their schedule to meet with their teacher, engage in their lessons, and complete their assignments. Attendance will be taken daily for virtual students. If your student is absent from virtual school, please call the office at (719) 486-6830 to report the absence.
The first fire drill of the school year will tak place on Thursday, September 10th. These drills will be conducted on a monthly basis to ensure that students and staff are able to respond quickly and safely in the event of an actual emergency.
If you are a virtual student and you need help with your chromebook, please contact: helpdesk@lakecountyschools.net
When dropping your children off in the morning, the parent drop off line is one line. When picking them up in the afternoon, please make two lines as we do our best to load 4 cars at a time. All students should be dropped off and picked up in the lower lot as we do not have supervision in the top lot.
Reminder: 2nd Day Supports Program with 100 Elk Outdoor Center: No programming on Monday. A-Day students will attend 100 Elk on Tuesday and Thursday. B-Day students will attend 100 Elk on Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure your child brings their completed health screener and their remote learning work to 100 Elk as time will be provided each day for them to complete their assignments. LCIS students who do not ride the bus to school can be dropped off for the 100 Elk program at the Community Field between 7:45-8:00 and be picked up between 2:45-3:15.
LCIS lunch news: Starting this week, students may eat their lunch as a cohort outside if the weather permits. Students will still wash their hands before and after eating and will still follow social distancing procedures.
UPDATE: Meals during Yellow Phase Reopening
All meals are now free for all students regardless of free/reduced lunch status. Please be sure to take advantage of the meals LCSD is able to provide!
Please follow this link for details on distribution depending on your student’s learning choice. If you need any accommodations please do not hesitate to reach out to Julie Mehle. jmehle@lakecountyschools.net 719-293-1040 (cell) 719-486-6960 (work).
Even though meals will be free for all students for at least the next few weeks, we encourage all families, including our virtual students, to apply for Free and Reduced School Meals during the first 30 days of school. It is necessary to complete a new application each school year. If your student was eligible for free or reduced meals during the 2019-2020 school year, that eligibility only carries through the first 30 days of school. Children need healthy meals to learn and thrive at school! Lake County School District offers healthy meals every school day and eligible families can receive these meals at no cost. When families apply for school meal benefits they are also helping Lake County School District receive additional funding that goes right back into the classroom!
Applications can be turned in at any school front office Monday-Thursday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, or mailed to Leslee Torsell, Lake County High School, 1004 W. 4th St., Leadville, CO 80461. If you need an application use this link to download the application as a PDF – https://www.lakecountyschools.net/for-families/nutrition/nutrition-application/ or contact Leslee Torsell, ltorsell@lakecountyschools.net, 719-486-6954.
