LCIS SNSO 11/22/20
Hello LCIS Families,
We hope this Sunday Night Shout Out finds you and your families healthy and safe. With community spread of COVID-19 at an all time high we are thankful that we have the opportunity to be in this remote learning phase so we can do our part to curb the spread of the virus. This has also provided the district time to recruit and train new substitute teachers. Hooray! We would like to encourage you to follow the CDPHE recommendations this holiday season so that we may all safely return to school on November 30th.
While shifting into the remote learning phase came quickly, as a school community we all successfully navigated this change. 100% of our students have the learning materials needed for their virtual learning. Many thanks to all of our families who took the time to come to the school to gather any items that were still here. If you need to pick up any additional materials, the school staff will be in the building on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Our teachers have been very creative in attending to the social/emotional needs of our students through daily Crew meetings, individual check ins, and being attentive to any messages they might receive. Please reach out to our School Social Worker, Sarah Roberts, at sroberts@lakecountyschools.net or at 719-293-4350 if you have any concerns about your child.
While we’re only two days into this brief virtual learning experience, our teachers have reported strong student turn out. All students have the opportunity to engage in direct instruction for English Language Arts and Math. As a reminder, your child also has access to many fabulous online learning platforms and we encourage you to carve out time each day for your child to engage with these. IXL and Kahn Academy are fantastic resources for math practice and Epic Books and Sora are wonderful resources for reading. Now would be a great time to explore your child’s Google Classrooms and see the variety of work that the teachers are assigning.
If you experience challenges of any sort while virtual learning, please do not hesitate to call the school office during our regular hours Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will be able to brainstorm solutions to internet availability and offer support for questions about lessons. If your child’s device is not working properly please contact the helpdesk@lakecountyschools.net
We will not hold specials and explore classes for this week. These teachers may contact your child to suggest enrichment activities. In the meanwhile, we encourage you and your child to take some time to get outside everyday and enjoy the fresh air.
Meal distribution will continue this week for Monday and Tuesday. Please click this link for more meal distribution information. If you have any questions, please reach out to the LCIS Family Connectors: Margarita Perea at 719-204-3641 (speaks Spanish) or Lisa Prout at 719-204-6436.
Reading is Awesome!
