LCIS FASO 8/27/21
Hello LCIS Families!
Time marches on as we’ve now wrapped up our second week of school! So many of our students remembered to complete and return their homework. Way to go! Thank you for your continuous support and encouragement to your child/children for building the habit of homework.
Students are now able to access IXL Math through their Clever account on their Chromebooks! While on IXL Math, students can choose to work on skills tied to what they are learning in class or use the diagnostic tool to help tailor their experience to focus on recommended skills.
We celebrated our second community meeting yesterday morning. We pumped up the school spirit by having our students chant in grade level unison their graduation year. Third graders may have been the loudest when they chanted 31, 31, 20, 20, 31! Students also competed in a friendly challenge by saying what each of the letters stood for in our HALLS and STAIRS acronyms. They were able to choose a prize if they could name what one of the letters stood for!
We also pulled our first Habits of a Learner ticket winner! Every day students receive habit tickets from LCIS staff when they see or hear students following school-wide and classroom expectations or showing the Habits of a Learner. These tickets can lead to daily prizes in the classroom and always lead to one lucky student per grade level winning the weekly prize and having their name said during the morning announcements. Congratulations to our first Habit Ticket winners!
Considering that our community is experiencing low vaccination rates with high transmission and how difficult it is to keep students socially distanced while at recess we will now require students to wear masks while they are outdoors. Many mask free zones have been designated on the playground that students may freely move in and out of as needed. We began this practice earlier this week and are so impressed by how our students have leaned into responsibility and compassion and they take care of themselves and others.

On Wednesday the Bibliobicicelta (Library Bicycle) came to visit the third graders on the Mineral Belt Trail. In our English Language Arts (ELA) studies, we are learning how children around the world access books- even in the most remote areas! During the visit, students were each able to choose one book from the mobile library to keep. They were fascinated by the logistics of the Bibliobici and asked great questions such as, How heavy is it? Is it hard to pedal with the books? Who built the shelf? Where does it go? We are all so appreciative of our partnership with the Lake County Public Library. Thank you for supporting our students!
