LCIS FASO 9/17/21
Hello LCIS Families!
We are so excited for you all to join us for our LCIS Outdoor Art Show and Open House on Tuesday September 21, 2021 from 5-6:30 pm. Come for a small portion of the evening or come for the whole time. We will start outside on the playground enjoying music from our LCIS choir and walking through the woods taking in the beauty of our students’ art inspired by Andy Golksworthy. Then we’ll move inside to visit our classrooms and teachers. We are looking forward to seeing you and sharing these experiences with you!
SMILE! Picture re-takes are scheduled for this Tuesday, September 22. If your child did not have their picture taken during Orientation Conferences, we will have their photo taken for our student records and for their photo ID. Photo packages will be available, too! You may order photos online or call the office to have an order form sent home with your child.
Our 6th graders were able to enjoy some beautiful weather and some team building activities at Turquoise Lake on Wednesday. These Culture Days are a great opportunity for students and teachers to collaborate. They all participated in a variety activities including Foraging and Making Pine Needle Tea, Survivor on the Beach, the Turquoise Lake Olympics and Team Challenges. It is such a great way to learn and grow together in our beautiful surroundings! Thank you, GOL!, for making this happen!
Students in 5th grade will go to Turquoise Lake for their Culture Day on Wednesday, 9/22/21. Our 4th graders will get to go to the lake on 9/29 and our 3rd graders will go on 10/6. We are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful fall colors and weather before winter.
There will be Project Dream Friday Program next week, September 24th. There is still space available if you are interested in enrolling your child in this program! Please contact Blanca Rodriquez at brodriguez@lakecountyschools.net or 719-293-0115 if you have any questions.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 to October 15. “Why does it start in the middle of the month?” you might be asking yourself. Because it is the anniversary of independence of five Hispanic countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua! National Independence Day for Mexico is September 16th. During this month of celebration, we pay tribute to the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. We are so excited that there is so much diversity in our little mountain town.
Tabor Opera House, Tabor Youth Collective, and Radio Futura are sponsoring a Ballet Folklorico workshop this Saturday from 5-8pm. This event is for children ages 6-11 years old and you can find more details in the flyer below.
Are you, or is someone that you know interested in becoming more active in our schools? The Lake County School District is actively hiring substitute teachers for this school year. Pay starts at $132 a day. Please reach out to Bunny Taylor btaylor@lakecountyschools.net or call 719-293-0738 for more information or to sign up for this fantastic opportunity.
Each year our schools have an official day in which attendance of students is counted. This count of students is used to calculate funding our district will receive from the state. Typically this count date is October 1st. Because we run a four day calendar and will not have school on October 1st, our official count day will be September 30th. Thank you in advance for your support of having students in attendance on September 30th this year.

Mrs. Hanger’s 3rd graders recently learned about what it means to have a “Growth Mindset”. They learned that if you give a seed everything it needs, it will grow. The students created the beautiful flowers below and each petal represents an area in which they would like to grow this year. What a wonderful way to visualize growth and brighten up our school!
