LCIS FASO 10/22/21
Hello LCIS Families!
Conference week is upon us! We are looking forward to seeing you all this coming week on Wednesday or Thursday. If you still need to sign up for your child’s conference, use this link. Both of these days will be a half day, starting at 7:45 and ending at 11:15. Students will have lunch at school before they are dismissed for the day. Our fabulous food service staff will be creating bag lunches for our students on conference days:
Wednesday individual pizza, veggies, fruit, milk
Thursday ham or turkey sandwich, veggies, fruit, milk
Our order came in, so we will be selling Smencils again this week! They are a new design with new scents, but just as wonderful as the originals. They are called Safari Smencils and they come in bubble gum, passion fruit, wild cherry and mango scents, just to name a few. We will sell them for $1 each in the mornings before school from 7:45-8:05 am.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held during conferences at LCIS in the library on Wednesday (12-8pm) and Thursday (12-7pm). This is a great opportunity to look over both new releases and old favorites. All of the books are for sale and the proceeds will be split between LCES and LCIS and used to purchase new books for the libraries. 📚📙📖
Students will have the opportunity to participate in our Halloween Panther Pride Day on either Wednesday or Thursday this week. Halloween will be celebrated on Thursday, October 28th. . If your child would like to wear a costume, they may! Read the following letter to learn more about what is allowed at our Healthy Halloween Celebration.
For all of our families who drop off and pick up your children: thank you for driving slowly and looking out for other drivers and students on foot and bikes. This can be a very busy time of day on the road and we appreciate everyone’s caution and care as you move through the line.
If you need to make any changes to your child’s afternoon transportation plan, please call the school office by 1pm so that we can relay these changes to the transportation department.🚍
The cold weather is here! At LCIS, students go outside for recess everyday provided that the temperature is above 0 degrees and the wind chill is above 10 degrees. Be sure to send your child with warm layers so that they will enjoy their time outdoors. If your child is in need of a coat, hat, gloves or boots, please fill out the form that came home in their Thursday Folder last week. All forms should be returned to the school by October 28. ⛄
Our 3rd graders have been studying frogs this week. They were able to go to Hayden Meadows with funding and support from GOL! on Wednesday to study frog habitats. Each classroom will be able to watch a live tadpole grow into a frog because of the grant funds received from Freeport McMoRan. Ms. Page, Ms. Rogers, and Mrs. Hanger have been able to make science come alive – literally! – for our 3rd graders! 🐸
This week in Leah’s Crew, students met with a fifth grade class from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We prepared by completing graphic organizers about ourselves and then writing questions that we wanted to know about them. It was so interesting to learn how much we have in common: soccer, school, language, supermarkets, and more! Some difference we discovered were that they wear uniforms to school, get most food from local agriculture, and have a tropical climate. We are excited to continue this collaboration with their class in the upcoming months so that we can develop empathy and curiosity towards others around the world.
Our fifth grade students hosted our October Community Meeting on Thursday with a focus on respect. In their English Language Arts class they have been learning about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and at the meeting they highlighted how human rights are related to respect. While many of our students exhibit the habit of respect every day at school, only one could be chosen from each crew to be honored as the scholar of the month. Congratulations to the students who were recognized for respect this month.
