LCIS FASO 11/5/21
Hello LCIS Families!
We started the week with winter and have ended with a touch of fall! With these ever changing temperatures be sure to watch the weather and send your student to school with the appropriate clothing as we go outside when the temperature is at or above 10 and the windchill is at or above 0.
Be sure to label your child’s coats, sweatshirts, hats, etc. with their name so that if their items end up in the lost and found we will be able to easily reunite them.
Students attending athletic events: Students will be allowed to attend athletic events as a spectator when they have adult supervision. Students will not be allowed to stay after school for athletic events. Instead, they will need to either go home or be picked up and then return to the school to watch the game with an adult. When students attend athletic events, they will be expected to be accompanied by an adult, sit in the bleachers and support their team. Go Panthers!🏀
This week we will have a practice Lockdown Drill at Lake County Intermediate School. We practice this drill so that we may familiarize the staff and students with our expectations and routines in case we are ever faced with a crisis. See the attached letter for more details.
Please help your child remember their chromebooks every day for school. This week they will need them for STAR progress monitoring on Wednesday and Thursday! This online test measures students’ knowledge and understanding of vocabulary, as well as their ability to apply vocabulary strategies and will help our teachers to offer the best instruction possible.
Speaking of making academic progress, we want to give a huge shout out to all of our families for supporting their students to complete their homework every week. The extra math and ELA practice makes a difference!
📚 ACADEMIC UPDATE
Fourth graders kicked off their first week in their new ELA module on “Animal Defense Mechanisms with a special presentation from our awesome partners at Schools and Outdoor Learning Environments (SOLE). Students got to learn about what the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) organization does for the people of Colorado, examples of animals native to our state, and all about animal adaptations and how they use them to survive in the wild. We were able to dress up students in replicas of different beaver adaptations, such as a poncho to represent waterproof fur. Fourth grade students even got the opportunity to pet a real life bull snake, yikes!🐍🐍🐍🐍 A big thank you to our SOLE presenters and CPW for visiting our school and bringing our new ELA module to life!
Third graders practice team-building by trying to stack cups without touching them. Challenging your communication and creativity skills can be so much fun!
🎵 MUSIC 🎵
MTI’s All Together Now! is designed as a fundraiser for local theatres to perform live, over the same four-days November 12 – 15, 2021. The past year-and-a-half has been extremely challenging for theatrical organizations and MTI is offering this exclusive musical revue as a way to support the thousands of theatres who are persevering under trying circumstances. Our very own Lyric Theatre of Leadville and the Lake County Civic Center will be participating in this global event on November 12th and 13th at 7:30 pm at the Old Church. There is a $20 admission fee at the door and masks will be required. We are so excited to hear live performances by our wonderful local celebrities including Mrs. Celesta Cairns and Mr. Scott Carroll! More details and information about Lyric Theatre of Leadville may be found at www.lyrictheatreofleadville.com
We are planning for the return of in-person concerts this year at LCIS! Our Instrumental Concert for grades 5-12 is scheduled for Dec. 7th and our Vocal Concert for grades 3-12 is scheduled for Dec. 9th. Both concerts will take place at LCHS at 7 pm.
