LCIS FASO 11/12/21
Hello LCIS Families!
November is a wonderful time to elevate gratitude. At LCIS, we have been focusing on showing gratitude and highlighting people and things that we are grateful for. All of our students are writing messages of gratitude and these are on display in our main foyer. Here are some of the things students are saying:
“I am grateful for my mom because she always helps me when I need help.”
“I am grateful for my dog because I like to play with him.”
“I am thankful for Lego Robotics.”
“I am thankful for my loving and kind family and friends.”
Yesterday Mrs. Cairns hosted a special morning announcements recognizing Veterans Day. Our 5th and 6th grade choir students sang the National Anthem and our own Mr. Barnett was honored for his service in the Army. We are grateful for the service of all of our veterans.
On Thursday this week, our fourth graders will host our November Community Meeting with a theme of gratitude beginning at 8:10 in the LCIS Gym. Please join us as we celebrate the learning of our fourth graders with a focus on animal adaptations. We will not be highlighting students of the month at this time. Our next students of the month will be recognized in December for the habit of craftsmanship.
Our next Panther Pride Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 23rd. Our Specials and Explore teams have planned a Rodeo Theme for this month. Students are welcome to dress up in western wear but are certainly not required. The event will take place during each grade level’s Specials time up in the gym and will include a game station, a music station, and an art station. During our last Panther Pride day, our students created these colorful Papel Picado for our fiesta!
The Lake County Tree of Sharing program will provide families in need with holiday gifts. Registration will close on 11/18. They will not be able to accept late registrations, so please use the link below if you are interested in participating in this program. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewPAepS3ShIZ0-4M2Xdl2P5SK13enyBEKwSvO7xa9VCiekog/viewform?usp=sf_link
📚 ACADEMIC UPDATE
5th grade is continuing to practice their long division but now with a decimal dividend. They have been practicing for two weeks and are really understanding it! Way to go 5th grade! In ELA, we are doing Science Talks to answer our guiding question “Why do scientists study the rainforest?” They are using evidence from the text The Most Beautiful Roof in the World to support their answers. In Social Studies we are beginning a new Unit about World Lakes. We’re looking forward to seeing where this unit takes us.
Miss Finck’s crew was able to Zoom with her dad, Mr. Finck. He is a veteran and the students were able to ask him questions about Veterans Day! Technology is so awesome – and so is Mr. Finck!
We are super excited that our 3rd graders will be able to hear a presentation by Chris Anthony on Wednesday, November 17th! Chris Anthony won the award for producing, directing and writing the Best History Film at the Cannes Film Festival last summer for his film titled “Mission Mount Mangart”. It focuses on the 10th Mountain Division and its assignments in Europe during WWII. Chris is also a Warren Miller and Adventure Skier, so he has a special interest in these war heroes. This presentation will be a great introduction to the history unit that will begin in 3rd grade this month.
🎵 MUSIC 🎵 TONIGHT
MTI’s All Together Now! is designed as a fundraiser for local theatres to perform live, over the same four-days November 12 – 15, 2021. The past year-and-a-half has been extremely challenging for theatrical organizations and MTI is offering this exclusive musical revue as a way to support the thousands of theatres who are persevering under trying circumstances. Our very own Lyric Theatre of Leadville and the Lake County Civic Center will be participating in this global event on November 12th and 13th at 7:30 pm at the Old Church. There is a $20 admission fee at the door and masks will be required. We are so excited to hear live performances by our wonderful local celebrities including Mrs. Celesta Cairns, Mr. Scott Carroll and Mr. Dylan Rodwick! More details and information about Lyric Theatre of Leadville may be found at www.lyrictheatreofleadville.com
