Lake County Intermediate School Friday Afternoon Shout Out
Hello LCIS Families!
School starts on Monday! We are all so excited for the students to join us and for the learning to begin! School starts promptly every day at 8:05. If your child arrives at 8:05 or later they will be marked tardy. Also breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:00. If your child plans to eat breakfast at school be sure to drop them off at 7:45 so that they have time to eat. If your child rides the bus, they will arrive with enough time for breakfast. Breakfast is free to all students.
Parent drop off is one lane and students may exit their cars by the pool entrance. Parent pick up begins at 3:30 and we use two lanes for pick up to help the process move more quickly. Please follow the directions of the pick up monitors and communicate with them about who you are picking up.
If your child has a change to their afternoon dismissal plans, please notify the main office at 719 486 6830 by 2:30pm so that we can get your child a “pink note” with their different instructions. Students without a pink note will follow the dismissal plans on file.
Students will go outside every day for recess. If you’d like to send your child with a sun hat or sunglasses, please do so. It’s helpful if all student items (sweatshirts, jackets, hats, etc.) are labeled with the child’s name so that if/when they misplace it, we can help to get it back to them.
We are already looking forward to our next community event! On September 27th, we will host our annual LCIS Open House and Forest Gallery Walk. NOTE! This date is a change from Sept. 20th. This event will take place beginning at 5:00 on the playground with welcome and send off into the forest to view student artwork. Following the Forest Gallery Walk, you and your child are invited to visit classrooms and chat with teachers. We’re excited to see you all there!
6th Grade Students will be attending the Colorado Outward Bound School (COBS) in Leadville with their crew class beginning in August. This is a two day, one night event where students will engage in team building and leadership skills. Be sure to ask your 6th grader about the packing list. COBS is able to provide many of the camping items. Crews are scheduled to attend COBS on the following dates: BURNS: 8/24-8/25, FORGET: 8/31-9/1, CAMPBELL: 9/8-9/9
Athletics:
I’d like to introduce myself as Lake County’s new Athletic and Activities Director. My name is Amy Peters, and I have been coaching cross country and track & field in our district for over 20 years. I am excited to enter this new role, and I intend to be a visible and supportive presence to help our sports teams become even more successful. Please reach out to me at 719-293-0105 or apeters@lakecountyschools.net if you have any questions, concerns or ideas regarding Lake County athletics.
Fall sports are quickly approaching! Students in 6-8 grades have the options of boys’ football, co-ed cross country, girls’ volleyball or boys’ soccer. The high school seasons and middle school cross country officially begin on Monday, August 8; the other middle school sports will kick off after classes begin. In order to participate, athletes must have a current physical and have completed the Athletics section of the school online registration or fill out an Athletics packet, which can be picked up from the LCHS main office.
We strongly encourage all 6th grade students to participate in at least one sport or activity. Involved students pass classes at a higher rate, have less behavior issues and enjoy school more! Please encourage your students and their friends to find a team or club to join. GO PANTHERS!
