LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 12-2-22
Dear LCIS Families,
December is here! With only two more weeks before winter break, we hope to see your child at school every day. Each day between now and winter break is filled with learning and activities that your child won’t want to miss. Also, as we are wrapping up our first semester and finalizing grades, it’s important that your child is here to complete their assignments. Thank you for helping to get your student to school every day!
LCIS Holiday Spirit Week is coming December 12th-15th! Please encourage your child to join us in the following ways on the following days:
Monday 12/12- Hat and Scarf Day
Tuesday 12/13-Holiday Sock or Other Accessory Day
Wednesday 12/14- Panther Purple & Gold Day (Community Meeting @ 8:05!)
Thursday 12/15- Holiday Flair Day: Wear your favorite or silly holiday attire!
We will be selling Elf Hats and Santa Hats for $2 each. The hats will be available Tuesday – Thursday the week of Dec. 15th or until we run out. All proceeds will benefit our PBIS rewards program.
Thank you to those of you who made it out this week to join Cheryl Talbot and Erin Dillon for our Parent-Principal Real Talk. It’s so important to us that we hear your ideas and concerns and talk about solutions together. We hope to offer another Real-Talk event later this winter.
Is your child interested in learning how to ski or snowboard? We are so fortunate that SOS Outreach programs are offered in Leadville! This affordable programming is designed for children, grades 3 and above, who have little to no experience skiing or snowboarding. Students receive all equipment, plus lift tickets and professional instructors. Programming is offered for five days, Saturday or Sunday, through the Learn to Ride/Ski program at either Ski Cooper or Copper Mountain, depending on your child’s age and experience. If you or child wants to learn more about the opportunity to ski or snowboard this ski season, they can learn more about the programming in their morning crew when Mikayla from SOS visits! Check out the SOS website with helpful details: https://sosoutreach.org
Students were reminded about how snacks at school work. Here’s what was reviewed:
SNACKS
Students will receive a healthy snack every day. The snack will be served to all students at no charge. If students do not finish their breakfast items, these may also be saved for snack. If you would like to provide a healthy snack for your student, please consider the following:
Recommended Snack Items:
Fruit Vegetables (with or without dip)
Dried Fruit Yogurt
Fruit cups or applesauce Trail mix
Tortilla chips with salsa Whole grain/low fat crackers
Baked chips Popcorn
Granola bars/cereal bars String cheese
Soda, energy drinks (including Gatorade) or juices high in sugar will not be allowed at school. However, clear, reusable water bottles are encouraged! Snacks that do not follow our healthy snack guidelines may only be eaten at lunch. If your child brings chips, please make sure they are snack size and one serving. If students bring large bags of chips or sodas, the teacher or the student will take it to the office where it may be picked up at the end of the day.
We also reviewed toys.
TOYS
Students are not allowed to have toys at school. Please talk with your child about leaving their toys at home. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. It may be helpful to check your child’s backpack to ensure that they are not bringing toys to school.
Have you been wondering where your child’s coat has been lately? It’s very possible that it’s in our lost and found bin at LCIS! The bin is overflowing with coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, water bottles and more! Encourage your child to take a look and see if they can find their missing item(s). Please be sure to label your child’s clothes so that we can more easily reunite them if their clothes end up in the lost and found bin.
The Lake County School District is in an academic calendar review process. Two meetings have been held so far to hear from community members about what currently works and what changes may need to be considered in the future. If you did not have the opportunity to attend the most recent meeting or if you have had more ideas since this meeting, we would like to get your feedback! Please click here to leave your feedback. The third and final meeting is scheduled for Dec 13, 6:30-7:30 @ LCHS Library. Click here for more information about calendar community planning meeting agendas.
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
3rd grade students are learning about Ancient Rome. If you have white bed sheets that we could use for togas at our community meeting, please send them to school next week! We will be presenting some of our learning as we host the next community meeting on December 14th at 8:05. Families are welcome to come. In math we are practicing multiplication fluency and word problems. Students should know all their multiplication facts 1- 10, please quiz them at home 😊
6th grade is beginning a new ELA unit titled “The Chocolate Collection” where they will research the history of chocolate and hone their skills in determining source reliability. In math, students began a new module focusing on positive and negative numbers and understanding the real world situations where these numbers occur.
