LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 1-20-23
Hello LCIS Families,
Our students braved the cold on Thursday and Friday this week and enjoyed tubing and ice skating for their HOWL reward celebration. They were also able to enjoy lunch at the Coronado Cafe at CMC and watch a movie at the high school. All throughout the first semester, students earned HOWL points for showing our Habits of a Learner. Each grade earned over 4,500 points! Way to go panthers!
On Monday and Tuesday this coming week our students will take the NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) benchmark assessments for both English Language Arts and Math. Please be sure to send your child to school with their charged Chromebooks. Students spent time reviewing their data from the fall assessments and goal setting for the winter ones. Talk with your student about their goals for both of these assessments. Students have been studying hard all semester and we are excited to see their growth!
This year the 5th graders will participate in the 10 Mountain Ski Down at Ski Cooper on Friday, February 24th. All 5th graders will have the opportunity to learn to ski and join the Serpentine- the group ski down from the top of the mountain. If you have a 5th grader, please make sure that you read the information packet, sign their permission forms and send them back to school as soon as possible.
Each year, students in English language learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
This testing window is Jan. 9, 2023 through Feb. 10, 2023 and schools will begin testing for our English Language Learners next week.
Please contact Bunny Taylor, District Assessment Coordinator, if you have any questions! btaylor@lakecuntyschools.net 719-486-6800
We are still working on some bugs in our lunch balance notification system – thank you for your patience! You are always welcome to call the school and ask about your child’s lunch balance. Money for lunches may be sent to school with your child or you can pay for lunches on the district website – www.lakecountyschools.net – using e-funds
LCIS is participating in the SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee again this year! Mark your calendars for February 8th at 8am in the LCIS Gym as this is when our crew spelling bee winners will compete to become the school champion and have the opportunity to compete at the state level. Students should have brought home spelling packets, so be sure to start quizzing them! Remember that in a spelling bee a student must say the word, spell the word, then say the word. Start building that habit now!
On SATURDAY, January 21, Freight will host a Trivia Night with proceeds going to our LCIS Music Department. Come enjoy an evening with friends and help LCIS to purchase some ukuleles for our students! If you are unable to attend this event, but would like to make a donation to the music department, you are welcome to do so by dropping off a check or cash to LCIS. There is a flier at the end of the shout out with more information.
