ACADEMIC UPDATE:
3rd grade has been studying the solar system and learning all about galaxies! Students are continuing to develop their understanding of fractions. We’ve been exploring equivalent fractions and building a whole. Make sure to check out your scholar’s personalized IXL skills in reading and math so they can continue to grow.
4th grade has been diligently studying fractions. This past week they have learned how to subtract fractions by using mixed numbers. In ELA, students are learning how to write opinion pieces and reading excerpts from a Vignette called “The House on Mango Street.”
5th grade just finished their ELA unit on The Reformation. Next week we begin Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Try to be at school every day so you don’t miss any of this funny play! In math, we finish up our long unit on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions with a UNIT TEST next Thursday before spring break! Please be at school so you can take it while you still remember it!
6th grade will finish their Expressions and Equations math unit this coming week before Spring Break. After the break, they will move on to the Geometry unit focusing on area, surface area, and volume.
In ELA, students are enjoying reading the novel Summer of the Mariposas and determining the theme of the book and the stages of the hero’s journey.
