LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-12-23
Hello LCIS Families,
We had such an eventful week – typical of all the weeks in May! We celebrated Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, had a visit from the Leadville/Lake County Fire Department to learn about fire safety, had a lockdown drill, and attended a preview of the LCSD Musical, “The Sound of Music”. Whew! This school year is quickly approaching the end and we still have so much learning and so many events planned! Please look below at the calendar and watch for notes from teachers as we enter what seems to be the busiest season of the school year!
As we mentioned above, Lake County High School’s Performing Arts Department is presenting the timeless classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC running May 11th – 13th. Click here for more information on this week’s performances! https://wp.me/p4PQnj-6pX The students are soooo talented and the level of craftsmanship is simply amazing. Hope to see you there!
🎨 The LCSD Art Show is this Thursday! We all look forward to this event all year. The student artwork is amazing – we surely have the most talented students in the state! There is a change of venue this year. For the first time, we will have the LCSD Art Show at Lake County Elementary School. This event will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm on May 18th. There will be face painting, card making, flower potting, root beer floats and more! This is a cash/check only event and is a major source of funding for the district art department. It is also the best interactive art show in the area!
Next week students will take the NWEA end of year assessment. It is a good way for teachers and staff to track how well the students are absorbing the information being presented. We are always trying to make sure that students are growing in all of their academic areas. When students finish this assessment, teachers and staff will be able to measure how much learning has taken place since the beginning of school last fall. There will be a celebration in June for students who have shown growth and/or given their best effort on their NWEA benchmark tests. Please remind your child to bring their charged Chromebook every day next week!
The LCIS Student Senate created a poster in celebration of Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. They led the students in an appreciation note activity making sure that all of the adults in our building were acknowledged for their work and dedication to students. Their sentiments and thoughts are so sweet and heartfelt!
Mark your calendars because LCIS will be hosting our Celebration of Learning on Tuesday, June 6th from 6-7:30 pm! We now plan to offer our spring concert in conjunction with this event, so will have music presentations from our band students and each grade level. This will be in place of the previously scheduled Spring Concert at LCHS on May 31st.

Visit beautiful high alpine lakes, learn how to cook on a camp stove, sleep under the stars, make great new friends, and challenge yourself! The trip is free for all participants and will be run by the High Mountain Institute in partnership with Full Circle of Lake County. No experience is necessary.

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
Third-grade classes have been exploring geometry in math class. Our geometry unit will carry us to the end of the school year with fun activities and learning related to quadrilaterals, perimeter, and lots of manipulatives to help our math brains grow as we prepare for fourth grade! Did you know that kinesthetic movement can help our brains retain information? Here is Ms. Reitenbach’s class practicing kinesthetic learning by making quadrilaterals with our fingers and limbs! Who knew math could be so collaborative!
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
Our middle school soccer teams wrap up their season on Saturday at Berry Creek Middle School. The girls will play at 9:50 am. If they win, they will play at 2:30 pm. If they win that 2nd game, they will play in the championship game at 4:50 pm. The boys will play at 11:00 am. If the boys win, they will play at 3:40 pm. Their bracket is smaller, so 2 games is the most that the boys will play.
The Sound of Music production is THIS WEEKEND!! There are shows on Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Don’t miss this top-notch performance! You can get your tickets now at https://lakecountyhs.booktix.com.
Open gyms for middle school girls’ basketball will be on Sundays from 6-8 pm at the LCIS gym. 5th grade girls are invited to attend, but a parent will need to sign the Assumption of Risk form when they drop them off at practice. Please come in with your 5th grade student the first time she attends.
