LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-19-23
Hello LCIS Families,
Thank you to all of you who came to the 2023 LCSD Art Show! It was the same great activity and art experience, except in new surroundings! There were lots of families and visitors who came to support the district art department and we appreciate the flexibility of those who attended. We are so thankful for our community partners, our volunteers and our staff who make this event so worthwhile and we are especially grateful for the students and families who attended our art show!
Wednesday’s community meeting, from 8:05-8:30 in the LCIS Gym, will be full of celebrations! Not only will we celebrate our scholars of the month for Creativity, but we will also honor the students who made growth on NWEA in Math and/or ELA and our Multilingual students who made growth on ACCESS testing. It’s been great to see so many students reach their growth goals!
For students who showed improvement, academic growth, and perseverance, they will be celebrated at the first ever LCIS Academic Celebration Carnival on the afternoon of June 5th.
We also have 21 students who are in the NWEA 80/80 Club. These students made over 80% growth and scored at the 80th percentile or above in achievement in either Math or ELA. This group of students will be invited to visit Denver on Thursday, 5/25 and watch a Rockies baseball game.
Mark your calendars because LCIS will be hosting our Celebration of Learning on Tuesday, June 6th from 6-7:30! We now plan to offer our spring concert in conjunction with this event, so we will have music presentations from our band students and each grade level. This will be in place of the previously scheduled Spring Concert at LCHS on May 31st.
ACADEMIC UPDATE:
Things are winding down in the 6th grade curriculum world!
We are working on our last math module, statistics, which will include learning about data landmarks, data analysis, and displays of data (graphs and charts). In ELA, students are wrapping up the Titanic unit with an essay about either Titanic orphans or what ultimately was the reason behind the sinking of the great ship. We will finish the year with a mini unit on poetry. 6th grade students are also learning about the human body’s living systems and what is involved in the healing process.
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
Congratulations to the drama department for a spectacular presentation of The Sound of Music! I hope you were able to enjoy that incredible production!
Congratulations also to our spring sport athletes! High school track has 11 athletes at the state meet this weekend, competing in pole vault and distance events. I am proud of our HS soccer girls and our middle school sports athletes, who persevered through weather and facility challenges and finished with sportsmanship and great efforts!
If your athlete (from any sport this year) has not yet turned in their uniform, please turn it in to an office or a coach ASAP!! Fines will be assessed beginning next week.
Watch for information on summer open gyms/weight room in the next couple of weeks. Let’s keep these kids moving and increasing in athleticism during the summer months!
