LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 5-26-23
Hello LCIS Families,
We hope that you and your family are enjoying a long weekend in honor of Memorial Day this Monday. As a reminder, we will have school on Friday, June 2nd. We are looking forward to celebrating our graduating seniors on Friday as they plan to stop by LCIS that morning so that we can cheer for them and wish them well. It’s always amazing to see our students back in the building after so many years for this special event. We couldn’t be more proud of our graduating seniors!
This past week marks the end of our school-wide assessments. This year our students have taken benchmark assessments at the beginning, middle and end of year. These assessments have included a writing assessment, the STAR Reading assessment, and the NWEA Math and ELA assessment. These benchmark assessments allow our teachers to identify current levels of achievement and determine targeted instruction for all students. The data that we received this year from these assessments show continued growth and increased academic achievement levels for our students. Go Panthers!
Over the course of the year, students engaged in discussions about their growth and achievement, set academic goals, and monitored their progress. As a school, we have taken the time to honor students for their growth and achievement and we have seen increased interest and excitement from students related to their academics. We are working on building a school culture where students see academic success as a desired and attainable outcome of their hard work. The support, encouragement, and enthusiasm that you provide your child related to their efforts positively impacts them and reminds them that they can achieve anything that they set their minds to. Thank you for being a part of our LCIS Crew!
Wednesday’s Community Meeting was full of celebrations! We recognized our scholars of the month for Creativity, honored the students who made growth on NWEA in Math and/or ELA and celebrated our Multilingual students who made growth on ACCESS testing. We are incredibly proud of all of our students for their efforts and achievements!
The celebrations keep coming!
Students who made at least 80% growth and scored at or above the 80th percentile for achievement on NWEA for Math or ELA were invited to a Colorado Rockies baseball game on Thursday, May 25. We had 21 students recognized for this extraordinary accomplishment. Congratulations, Panthers!
Students who showed improvement, academic growth, and perseverance on the NWEA assessments will be celebrated at the first ever LCIS Academic Celebration Carnival on the afternoon of June 5th. We are looking forward to this reward and all of the silly fun that it will bring!
Mark your calendars for the ultimate LCIS celebration, our Celebration of Learning! This wonderful presentation of student learning will take place on Tuesday, June 6th from 6-7:30! We will begin in the evening in the LCIS gym with a Community Meeting style kick off that will include a performance from the 5th and 6th band students. Throughout the evening, families will rotate through the various grade levels to hear about the different learning that has taken place at LCIS this year. Also, each grade level will have a scheduled performance time in the music room where they will sing together, and perform two more songs combining singing, piano and ukulele.
Our annual Field Day celebration will take place on Thursday, June 8th on the Community Field. You are welcome to stop by and cheer on the children as they participate in relay races, parachute activities, corn hole, soccer games and so much more! Students will be on the field at the following designated times. 3rd grade: 8:30-9:45, 4th grade: 12:00-1:15, 5th grade 1:30-2:45, 6th grade 10:00-11:15.
Our students have been actively demonstrating our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLS) this semester and accumulating HOWLS points. All grade levels are worked toward collecting a grand total of 8,000 points. Once this milestone has been achieved, all students will have the opportunity to participate in our HOWLS Reward/Celebration. This semester, our students will be going to the Silverthorne Recreation Center to swim and out to the Frisco Marina to participate in water sports, like kayaking, on Dillon Lake. It will be a splash! 5th and 6th grade will celebrate on Tuesday, June 13th and 3rd and 4th grade will participate on Wednesday, June 14th.
We will celebrate students with 95% or higher attendance for the entire school year with a popsicle party on the last day of school.
Our final school wide celebration will take place at 2pm on the last day of school, June 15 when we will honor our 6th graders who will be promoted to 7th grade and transition to LCHS next fall. Following this special community meeting, classrooms will have the option to host mini classroom celebrations. Look for specific information from your child’s teacher regarding a class celebration.
