LCIS Friday Afternoon Shout Out 6-2-23
Hello LCIS Families,
Our Celebration of Learning has arrived! On Tuesday, June 6th from 6:00-7:30 our students will be showcasing their learning from this year. Please join us at 6pm in the LCIS gym for a community meeting style gathering that will include a performance from our 5th and 6th grade band students. Following the welcome in the gym, our hallways and classrooms will be filled with our students who are ready to share their learning with you. We will also have scheduled music events for each grade level held in the music room throughout the evening. We hope to see you at this special event!
The celebrations keep coming! Please read the following carefully to know what’s coming up!
Students who showed improvement, academic growth, and perseverance on the NWEA assessments will be celebrated at the first ever LCIS Academic Celebration Carnival on the afternoon of June 5th. We are looking forward to this reward and all of the silly fun that it will bring!
Our annual Field Day celebration will take place on Thursday, June 8th on the Community Field. You are welcome to stop by and cheer on the children as they participate in relay races, parachute activities, corn hole, soccer games and so much more! Students will be on the field at the following designated times. 3rd grade: 8:30-9:45, 4th grade: 12:00-1:15, 5th grade 1:30-2:45, 6th grade 10:00-11:15.
Our students have been actively demonstrating our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLS) this semester and accumulating HOWLS points. All grade levels have amassed 8,000 points and have earned the HOWLS Reward/Celebration! This semester, our students will be going to the Silverthorne Recreation Center to swim and then out to the Frisco Marina to participate in water sports, like kayaking, on Dillon Lake. It will be a splash! 5th and 6th grade will celebrate on Tuesday, June 13th and 3rd and 4th grade will participate on Wednesday, June 14th.

The Lake County School Board is seeking individuals interested in serving on an advisory committee. The District Accountability Committee (DAC) is a state required committee created by each local school board with the purpose of providing recommendations and advice to the school board on topics set by state statute as well as by the local board. The committee is required to meet at least quarterly as a committee and at least annually with the school board, although the committee can choose to meet more often. We are looking forward to kicking this group off for the 2023-24 school year using a format that includes opportunities for meeting around the state required topics as well as areas of local study toward actionable recommendations and conversations with the Board of Education. We are requesting that interested individuals complete the following application that will be reviewed by the Board of Education.

At the June 26th meeting, we are scheduled for the board to select leadership and membership of the DAC. After this meeting, the selected leadership team will have an initial planning meeting in August to create and roll out the 2023-24 schedule and plan for the DAC. Thank you again for your interest and willingness to serve on this important committee.
Thank you for your interest in serving

ACADEMIC UPDATE:
3rd grade went to Hayden Meadows – and got rained on! They still had so much fun, though! They saw pictographs (right here in Leadville!), played tag to stay warm, and made boats and fishing poles using primitive tools. What a great place to go enjoy the outdoors!
4th grade students were able to go to Hayden Meadows on Wednesday. They were able to do some gold panning – sadly, nobody struck it rich! They made baking soda volcanoes, classified rocks, and they learned about wind and water erosion. It was a great day in the outdoors for everyone!
5th graders enjoyed eight stations to provide “Pathways to Fishing” at the Leadville National Fish Hatchery on Friday. Stations included skulls and furs, fishing knot tying, casting, and water safety.
ATHLETIC UPDATE:
If your athlete (from any sport this year) has not yet turned in their uniform, please turn it in to an office or a coach ASAP!! Fines will be assessed.
It’s time for summer training and open gyms! Next year’s success starts NOW!!
