Hello LCIS Families,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you so much for your flexibility and patience this week when we had to facilitate a controlled dismissal for our students. The compassion exhibited by students, staff and families exemplifies how we are crew.  This safety concern has brought tragedy to our community and our hearts go out to the family and friends of everyone who is affected.  Ms. Roberts, our school social worker, will continue to work with students who need extra support at this time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Finck\u2019s students were able to spend some time this week with Gemma Taylor, LCSW,\u00a0and her therapy dog, Nugget.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Please be sure to ask your child about his\/her homework this week<\/strong>. \u00a0 All assignments for grades 3-6 will come home in the Thursday Folders.\u00a0 Sixth grade students will receive their homework electronically through Google Classroom. Look for a reading passage with comprehension questions, a writing prompt, and a math sheet. Please encourage your child to set aside time over each long weekend to complete these assignments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to Martin Luther King Jr. day, we will not have school on Monday<\/strong> this week. Instead we will be in school from Tuesday through Friday. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In third grade <\/strong>the students are researching the 10th Mountain Soldiers in anticipation of their upcoming field trip to Camp Hale.  The students will have a great outdoor adventure on Friday, January 22nd, when they visit the site where the 10th Mountain Soldiers trained during WWII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our third graders also received new dictionaries this week from the Salida Rotary Club. We are so grateful for their generous donation to our students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Habit of a Learner focus for January is Craftsmanship<\/strong>. Our character targets for craftsmanship are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • I reflect on and revise my work by accepting feedback.<\/li>
  • My work is beautiful, done with care, and I pay attention to detail. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Mrs. Brungardt, one of our fabulous 5th grade teachers, is holding \u201cEight Days:\u00a0 A Story of Haiti\u201d . <\/em>\u00a0\u00a0This is a book about Junior, who uses his imagination and memories to survive an earthquake. The love and hope in this story will allow students to talk about resilience in the upcoming Natural Disasters unit.\u00a0 We hope you will have some wonderful family discussions, too!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
