One highlight was listening to some of our third grade students read their personalized I Have A Dream poem over the morning announcements. Every morning we began our day with words of inspiration from some of our youngest, and wisest, scholars. Another highlight was celebrating Hawaiian Day for our Panther Pride Day.&nbsp; Thank you to our specials team for organizing this for us!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/9UR-aj0uP9K_3CD17cQWZoUHqVyOfshfdhbzr7s1ARy-Xy3fjQFVm9-BXC0iccVMKw1uWv8yK9fh_0fGPfWe1vLAZXfK9mJaTOgbISziUlxCi4y8boZZABhMI6GLgKApARQEQwOz\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><strong>Mrs. Cairns and Ms. Good show some Hawiian flair while delivering breakfast.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Homework continues this weekend!<\/strong> \u00a0 All homework assignments for LCIS students will come home at the end of the week.\u00a0 Sixth grade students will receive their homework electronically through Google Classroom, but all other students will receive a paper packet. Please encourage your child to set aside time over the weekend to work on these assignments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4<sup>th<\/sup> grade students are working hard on their math facts by using playing cards.&nbsp; They always make sure to have clean hands and to stay socially distanced from one another!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/1XEJIRrf3t8MPHP3haygH40qvFCHRZdf3Bk7vAeI6dsljlX5JSpFvrmPrQcVRmS0BDrVN6HsUmvFsTZUFfeF2Bjn5q4G-m05IJhgHheE5bdCpCPYAj9w_UOpY-w6jSbJTxNKKQEJ\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>5th Grade students in Mrs. Martin\u2019s virtual class visited CMC to learn about avalanche safety as part of their Natural Disasters Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/m_ELM5ZSgmKJ6meKEg2UZjKdIJCU6P8D87SGNcicfG2Mqv-gBDNkAOZLKJVKCJzrrZzhWJMh-mENoZszZIOFlAASgMSbXOSwWYJz2Rv4fZOMbLCK0L1NJ2f64ewwXlIUFo3CPL_R\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/6KAIujYGYex24bb0Is-tAsnwHEOmUFkOdiMCuatYldqSLxWf57hxrfE55bvN67rtxbWdrHiiMPd8z7-_ipdP5qXzfWMIgVVYIPeV0XWHXXdegH2ztItpKLNNc6yY6MLTS9-Sb15E\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before launching their next English Language Arts module, sixth graders learned how to use notice and note signposts in fictional texts. For example, an \u201cAha Moment\u201d is when a character realizes something, and usually that realization changes things for the character in an important way. Students chose a book that they will read during Project Dream time and for weekend homework. They will be writing four-paragraph letters to their teachers about these books every two weeks, and their letters will include the skills of summarizing, making text connections, and analyzing signposts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/FAuKXKYqIacCJt4IWCIwR4V8dakr5kyVLfMaa72nuojiK1yzoSzEUXmGckztGcyTUJ3rTcFiUYkmF9ZrmWUQwjryZwEZGAnxJMg2mI66byaUbmMkTfiYllNnWS8tMDUhfdOyvtm9\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lake County Public Library<\/strong> has begun their <strong>Winter Reading Challenge.<\/strong>\u00a0Please contact them to sign up.  Read books and win prizes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LCIS Sports have begun! <\/strong>The girls\u2019 basketball team started practicing this week and they have 2 games scheduled for their short (4 week) season.&nbsp; We will not be able to have spectators at the games this year, but we are planning to stream them so that families can still enjoy watching their children play.&nbsp; The boys\u2019 team has started practicing, too, but only on Thursdays from 6-7:30 at the high school.&nbsp; Their season will officially begin on February 16th when they begin practicing every day from 4-6 in the LCIS Gym . Go Panthers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <strong>Habit of a Learner focus for January is Craftsmanship<\/strong>. Our character targets for craftsmanship are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I reflect on and revise my work by accepting feedback.<\/li><li>My work is beautiful, done with care, and I pay attention to detail.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reading is Awesome!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/gKorCKc_rGR7iVehy3KZdQbsuoi1DIoeZRRGTTkK647DbO_ejAPRR23rMpZVzMmtn8_UTRSjNu6d2RT7hYYYwGDuzhQUzGuUoq_2sJ16Dhx6dLgA13E6MLyJ7Uj-tk7phg1rpW5Z\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption>Ms. Forget, one of our super 6th grade teachers, is holding \u201c<em>Flush\u201d <\/em>by Carl Hiassen (the author of <em>\u201cHoot\u201d<\/em>). This is the story of a teenage boy named Noah Underwood whose father has been arrested for sinking the <em>Coral Queen<\/em>, a casino boat because he believes it has been illegally dumping sewage into the ocean at night.
