What a fun night we had last night! Thank you for the amazing turn out to our Family Fun Night Trick or Treat Festival. We hope your child enjoyed getting in costume and saying \u201ctrick or treat\u201d for fun toys and trinkets!\u00a0
Halloween is next Thursday. Students are welcome to dress in their costume for the day as long as it is school appropriate, meaning no weapons, face masks, or face paint.\u00a0

What have we been learning at LCES? Here\u2019s a quick snapshot of some of the things you can bring up when asking your student each night \u201cHow was your day?\u201d

In PK, students are learning about families and communities. Their dramatic play center includes role playing materials for birthday parties, making lists, completing chores and routines, etc. Students are also learning the following nursery rhymes: \u201cRain, Rain, Go Away\u201d, \u201cFive Little Monkeys\u201d, \u201cPease Porridge\u201d, \u201cTeddy Bear\u201d, \u201cA Tisket, A Tasket\u201d.\u00a0

Kindergarteners are working on learning familiar stories like \u201cThe Three Little Pigs\u201d, \u201cChicken Little\u201d, and the \u201cBremen Town Musicians\u201d. In math, students are exploring different ways to make 5.

\u00a0In first grade, students are wrapping up their knowledge unit on \u201cDifferent Lands, Similar Stories\u201d and will soon begin learning about \u201cEarly World Civilizations. For math, students will soon begin learning the relationship between addition and subtraction as well as the meaning of the equal sign (a relationship between two quantities).\u00a0

Second graders are learning about \u201cAncient Greek Civilizations\u201d as well as using a writing checklist to write narratives retelling a story. In math, students are counting and modeling two and three digit numbers with place value (hundreds, tens, ones).\u00a0

Read just 10 minutes a day to color in a box and then get to choose from Ms. Mulcey and Ms. Mandi\u2019s special prize cart when all the boxes are colored in.\u00a0

Parent Volunteers: <\/strong>If interested in volunteering, we encourage parents to reach out to their child\u2019s teacher or Mrs. Lovely to see where the biggest need of help may be. Sometimes this may look like making copies or laminating new math materials. We always appreciate the extra help!

You\u2019re Invited to Lunch!<\/strong> Families are welcome to join their student during their lunch time. Lunch times are as follows: Kindergarten eats at 11:40, first grade eats at 12:00, and second grade eats at 12:20. Please be sure to sign in at the front office and if eating school lunch, bring $4.50 for an adult meal. Thanks!

Attendance Reminder:<\/strong> If you know your child will be absent from school, please notify our front office staff. If your child is planning to miss school for 3 or more days, you should complete the Request for Pre-Arranged Absence Form in the front office. This form should be submitted three days prior to the absence so that we can notify your child\u2019s teachers and appropriate support for your child can be put into place.
We follow the district attendance policy, as follows:
After 7 absences, we require a doctor\u2019s note to excuse all future absences.\u00a0
At 10 absences, we notify parents\/caretakers of our concerns in writing and meet to establish an attendance success plan.
\u00a0At 15 absences (chronic absenteeism defined in BOE Policy JH), we hold an attendance meeting to discuss further actions as needed. Any further absences the parent\/guardian must call and speak with the Assistant Principal directly.\u00a0
At 20 absences, the Assistant Principal may refer the student to Nancy Abila the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator for the District Attorney\u2019s office or Truancy Court.Thank you for your support in ensuring that our students are here and ready to learn each day!

Food Program:<\/strong> Smart Bellies delivers kid-friendly food weekly and a bag of produce for our families. Register by filling out the form at https:\/\/forms.gle\/5KyNS6wkEVv89uns6<\/a>. We will leave the bags of food outside of your door each week.\u00a0

Just a reminder when picking up your student from after school programming you must pick-up in the front of the building not the back. 
All-day Friday tuition fee are due! Students who have unpaid tuition fees and late fees for September and October will be unenrolled from all-day Friday programs starting November 1st until payments are received. Please see recent emails regarding overdue balances, and you can always check your e-Funds account for fee statements as well (See out e-Funds payment guide in English<\/a> or Spanish<\/a>).

But how do you explain and cultivate a spirit of thankfulness and gratitude in children \u2013 especially in Toddlers and Preschoolers?\u00a0<\/strong>

In their early years, children are naturally self-focused as part of their development. However, as they grow, fostering a sense of gratitude helps them become more understanding of the needs and feelings of others.When Do Children Learn About Gratitude?<\/em>Children begin learning about gratitude as early as age 2. At this stage, they may start expressing thanks when prompted. By ages 3 to 5, children can understand the concept of gratitude more deeply and show appreciation independently.Tips for Teaching Gratitude:<\/em>It\u2019s simple to build-in daily activities to help your child understand the needs and feelings of others. Below are five tips to get you started.Teach Them to Say Thank You

I have several friends who post daily on Social Media, one thing they are thankful for during the month of November. At the end of the month, they have a record of appreciation for that time period in their lives.\u00a0<\/strong>
Why not try something like that with your family during the month of November? It would not have to be a daily thing and you would not have to post it on Social Media \u2013 just plan a simple way to discuss \u201cthankfulness\u201d with your family, encouraging each family member to contribute to the discussion.<\/strong>
To further encourage thankfulness, you could select a few things from your list and find tangible ways to say \u201cthank you.\u201d For example, your family could write notes and\/or color pictures expressing your appreciation and deliver them to the local Fire Station (perhaps along with some homemade cookies \u2013 everybody loves cookies)!\u00a0<\/strong>
So, even with your family\u2019s crazy daily schedule (and even as things get more hectic as we move towards December and all that entails), try and be diligent in helping your child develop a spirit of thankfulness and gratitude helping them to become aware of all of the \u201cgood things\u201d in their lives. Our world needs more people like that!\u00a0<\/strong>

The Lake County School District has an excess of artificial turf rolls obtained during the re-turf of the Community Field. They are currently stored in the upper parking lot of the Lake County Intermediate School on 6th street. They are free to anyone who would like to take them.
