West Park Parent Weekly Update 4/12/2020
Greetings, WPE Families!
We hope you receive this email well and are safe and healthy. What a nice treat it was to have some sunshine and warmer temperatures to encourage us to play outside! We are all patiently awaiting the time when we can see each other again; we will be sure to communicate any updates with you as soon as we get them regarding school closures and re-openings. Thank you so much for being the frontrunner of your child’s education at a time when we are not able to meet in the regular way.
– Monday, April 13, from 8 am – 4 pm we plan hand out the next two weeks’ worth
of paper packets at LCIS for students in K-6. We will continue to have the “car-side delivery
service” for you on Monday from 8am-4pm. Please pull up to the front of
LCIS and we’ll deliver your grade level packets. The packets are also
available 24-hours under the LCIS awning, to be as convenient as
possible. Please pick up packets for your child’s grade level, as well as
a specials/additional information packet. Please reach out to your
child’s teacher if you have ANY questions!
Please try to set aside time each day to talk with your child about their work, they can show you what they accomplished and what they struggled with, and help them work through the items. You can check the work and offer suggestions if they are missing a concept. Most importantly is the TIME you can spend with your child – playing outside, talking, reading a book together, making a meal together, etc. Right now helping our students feel safe in a predictable environment can be accomplished by sticking to a routine and having conversations without electronic interruptions.
As you may remember from a previous communication from the District, we have determined that for now we will hold students’ belongings at our school until there is a better time for a safe pick up. Spring pictures have not yet come in. If you or your student have an essential item that you need to pick up for a learning or health reason please call the front office and leave a message and we will get back in touch with you.
This year we will be selling WPE yearbooks! Even though the year is ending differently than we expected, we still want to offer families the chance to buy a yearbook. Yearbooks are $25 and can be purchased through E-Funds (if you already have an account) or you can mail a check or money order payable to WPE (please write the student’s name and “yearbook” in the memo line) . You can mail the check or money order to:
Rachael or Lynette
West Park Elementary School
130 West 12th Street
Leadville, CO 80461
All yearbooks must be purchased by April 30th . We will put in an order and we will either arrange for them to picked up or mailed to your home.

If you have not yet heard from your child’s teacher yet, please feel free to email them (addresses can be found here). Please include the best way to contact you, in case we don’t have updated contact information for you. We want to keep up our relationships with you, as it is super important!
*You may also call the WPE office – 719-486-6890– if no one is in the office to pick up your call (we are trying to work from home as much as possible), please leave a message. We will return all calls within 24 hours.
*Lake County Build a Generation has also provided a form you can fill out if you are seeking volunteer opportunities or additional support. You can find these on their website at http://lcbag.org/

*As of right now, all school activities and events through May 1st have been cancelled. We will be waiting upon further direction from the Governor as to what our next steps will be, if school does or does not resume by May 1st. Please check our website and emails frequently for the most up to date information. Here is a link to the LCSD COVID-19 resources and update page.
*Student Belongings Based on the current executive order that Coloradans stay at home due to the presence of COVID-19 in the state we have determined that for now we will hold students’ belongings at their schools until there is a better time for a safe pick up. If you or your student have an essential item that you need to pick up for a learning or health reason please call the front office and leave a message and we will get back in touch with you.
