WPE Parent Weekly Update 5/17/2020
Greetings, WPE Families!
It’s hard to believe that our school year is coming to an end. It is with great sadness that we close out the WPE year without getting to say farewell in person for one last hug or high-five! I want to personally thank you for all that you have done over these past two months with supporting your child with his/her at-home learning. We had a very successful year at WPE, and I look forward to resuming our progress with our students in the upcoming year.
*Feedback from Families: I’d love to learn more about how the last ten weeks have been for your child and your family in terms of school. If you’d like to share your successes, challenges or ideas for the future with me, please reach out to me (in Spanish or English) via email at email@example.com .
*If you were not able to pick up your child’s belongings, art projects, yearbook, and final packet, please feel free to stop by the school on Friday, May 22nd. I will be here and can bring your items to the front door.
*Lake County SBHC re-opened on Tuesday, May 5th! The SBHC will be open 1 day/week (Tuesdays) from 8am-5pm for well visits (Well Child Checks, immunizations, sports physicals, reproductive health, injuries). Telehealth/virtual appointments will be offered for sick visits, including potential COVID-19.
*Behavioral health appointments are available via telehealth or in person at our main Summit Community Care Clinic in Frisco. SCCC will honor your student’s SBHC enrollment and pricing at the main clinic through August 31, 2020. For questions or to schedule an appointment, please call the Summit Community Care Clinic (your SBHC sponsor) at 970-668-4040, or 719-486-6981 on Tuesdays when the SBHC is open. Please reach out to the Care Clinic if you need support during this
*If you are moving over the summer, please let the front office (719-486-6890) know so that we can get all of your child’s records together for an easy transition. We appreciate your letting us know in advance for accurate records and class lists.
*We will be sending off our 2nd graders to LCIS with our best wishes! We want our rising 3rd graders to feel as comfortable as possible with the exciting transition ahead! 2nd grade parents, here is a link to afun orientation video created by the LCIS staff to help decrease the “new school” worries.
*We know that when we return to school in August, it will be different – what we don’t know is how different. Please know that the WPE and District leadership teams are working very hard to create plans depending upon the different ways in which school might open up. We are responding to the ever-changing environment in which to keep everyone safe in a school setting. Please keep an eye out over the summer for updates, as they are developed. We will email and create website posts, of which you’ll be aware by text notification.
*Please reach out if we can help with anything during this challenging time. Christy Trujillo (719-427-0105) and Amber Borcyk (719-293-1751) are more than happy to help you navigate these changing times and situations!
*Resources for families:
WPE Bedtime stories – please search and “like” this fun Facebook page featuring some of our favorite staff members reading books. I’m trying to upload videos more frequently since we don’t get to spend time together!
Lexia Core5 Reading – supplemental reading skill practice that Kinder, 1st and 2nd grade students can use at home (parent/sibling help is only needed if the apple in the corner is red!)
Kids A-Z – fun reading games which students enjoy! Books are in English and Spanish!
Engage NY Math Curriculum – click on the grade level from the Math column to see our math curriculum. You can also click on “Parents and Families” from the top menu for parent resource packets and helpful videos.
DreamBox – we have been given complimentary DreamBox Learning subscriptions for our students through the end of June. DreamBox is a K-8 digital math program.
*If you haven’t yet had a chance to fill out the 2020 Census, please do so here! It is super important that everyone completes the Census for their household. 2020 US Census
