West Park Weekly Parent Update 10/25/2020
It’s an exciting time in our construction phase of the new Pre-K through 2nd school building! The crews will be finishing up the roof this week and placing the last beam on the structure within 10 days! Please see our video of the project so far on Lake County School District Facebook. Here’s a photo of the in-floor heat tubing being placed before the concrete pour, under the watchful gaze of Mt. Massive.
* Fall conferences will take place this Wednesday, October 28th and Thursday, October 29th from 12:00-8:00pm. Please see the attached letter that went home this week in folders. School dismisses at 11 on these days, for all students (in 2nd day program or at WPE). Please use this link to sign up by Tuesday! Please note that the first question will ask if you would like to attend your child’s conference in person or virtually, through Google Meets. If you are in Ms. Seifert’s or Ms. Perez’ class, your conferences will be held virtually, like your program. Please follow the link below and pick the best date and time for you to meet with your child’s teacher. You will receive a confirmation email – if you do not receive the confirmation email, please check that you have completed all of the steps in setting up your appointment. We ask that everyone over the age of 5 completes a health screener prior to entering the building, and please limit the size of your group to the student and parents, when at all possible.
*Second Day Project Dream Programming updates: We have just finished a successful second week of 2nd Day Programming at Pitts! Crew leaders are focusing on establishing classroom routines and building relationships with their new “crews.” As there are more academic expectations for this version of the second day programming, the goal is for it to look more like a traditional school day. As such we are asking that students follow the expectations that they would at WPE. Specifically, please make sure your student is leaving all toys and stuffed animals at home. If a student brings a stuffed animal or toy, they will be asked to keep it in his/her backpack. If they refuse to do so, the crew leader will hold on to the item until the end of the day, when they will send it home with students. Thank you for your help in maintaining clear expectations and helping our 2nd day programming to run as smoothly as possible! – from Taylor Rapke, Site Supervisor
*If you have any questions about the WPE-Pitts Project Dream program, please call Taylor Rapke at 719-293-5363, the Project Dream site supervisor or firstname.lastname@example.org.
*We have purchased thermometers for families who do not have one at home. In order to fulfill the grant requirements, families will be asked to fill out this brief questionnaire to determine need and eligibility. Here is a link to the Spanish version of the google form. Thermometers will be available starting September 24 and do not need to be returned – they are yours to keep forever!
*If you have any extra kids’ clothes – specifically, boy’s clothes in sizes 4-8 – we could use them in our main office for when our students need a change of clothes. We appreciate pants, socks, underwear and shirts. Thank you in advance!
*Please watch your emails and texts for the next step in our naming process of our new school. More information will be out next Tuesday or Wednesday!
*Due to safety precautions, and the priority on instructional time in our building, we will not be having a Halloween costume parade or classroom parties this year at WPE. We are sad to not have this special event, and appreciate your understanding. Please save the dressing up for October 31st and we hope you can attend the community Trunk or Treat Street at the Community Field from 1-5pm.
*Due to safety precautions, we ask that only staff and students come inside the building. If you need to pick up your child early, please call the school office ahead of time so we can have your child ready to send out to you! 719 486 6890.
- To excuse a student absence, you can continue to call the WPE office at 719-486-6890.
- For all transportation changes, please call the WPE office before 2:30 at 719-486-6890. We will get your student a gold note for the change.
- If you have any questions about bussing – especially after 4:00pm- please call Joyce LaCome at 719-221-1017. She is the expert on bus routes and the manager of the bus drivers.
