WPE RED Update – Please Read! 11/13/2020
November 13, 2020
Dear WPE Families,
As you are aware, we have been monitoring the cases of COVID and staff absences, and the implications that it brings to our schools. We wanted to let you know that as of 12:30pm yesterday we made the decision to transition into a “red” remote status for the next six days of school running from Monday, November 16 through Tuesday, November 24. We anticipate returning to our hybrid in-person learning on Monday, November 30. The shift to a remote instructional model is a result of staffing shortages both current and anticipated that would limit our ability to safely and effectively host school.
We will greatly miss seeing your children in person, and our wonderful WPE staff have planned for this situation to be as smooth as possible. Please know that your students have been given an “emergency transition packet” of work to complete for next Monday and Tuesday. During these first two days, our teachers will be refining our instructional plans which will become more virtual, according to what is appropriate for each grade level. On Monday and Tuesday, your child’s crew teacher will be reaching out to you to make sure you have what is needed to start more virtual instruction. This might come from a blocked number as teachers may be using our school data system. Please try to answer this important phone call. All students have been given a computer device and have practiced logging on to their teacher’s Google classroom. In the teacher’s Google classroom, there are places where assignments can be found, and in the upper left hand corner, a link to a Google Meet. This Google Meet link allows the students to connect with their teacher and crew during remote instruction. We will be taking attendance as your child logs on to aclass Crew each day and emergency packet work will be collected when your child returns to school.
The WPE office will be staffed from 8am-4pm during this time (we are closed on Friday, 11/20) in order to be responsive to parent needs. Feel free to call us if you have any questions at 719-486-6890. If you do not have internet access, you may pick up an at-home work packet to continue your child’s progress beginning at 9am on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Please come and ring the bell so someone in the office can help you! If you do not have access to transportation and need a packet or charger delivered, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange for delivery by the end of the day on Monday, 11/16.
Here’s what you can expect for each grade level and department as we transition to “red” for this time:
On Monday and Tuesday, families should use the “emergency packets” or previous packet work. If you need an emergency packet please pick one up at the school. Kindergarten teachers will be reaching out to families on Monday and Tuesday to provide additional details to find out what families might need in terms of support. Teacher emails are: email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com
All kindergarten students have iPads. If you do not have an apple device at home and need an iPad charger, you are welcome to pick up an iPad charger from WPE during office hours.
In addition to the “emergency packet,” students may work on any unfinished work in their folders. Students can also work on Lexia, DreamBox and RAZ-Plus during this time. Cohort B students received next week’s packet before leaving school yesterday. New packets for Cohort A or absent students can be picked up at West Park or delivered if you do not have access to transportation. Mrs. Allen and Ms. Kohn will be calling all families on Monday and Tuesday to check in about school in general, connectivity at home, and next steps for Wednesday and Thursday. In the meantime, if you have any questions please feel free to contact the teachers. Teacher emails are:
