West Park Weekly Parent Update 12/13/2020
Hello WPE panthers!
Welcome to the last school week of 2020! I am so proud of the incredible strength and flexibility each family, student, and staff member have shown during this very challenging time in our world. Our strength as a community comes out during times such as these. We look forward to seeing you all again on January 4th or 5th of 2021! I hope your new year and holidays are peaceful and safe.
Please drive by the new school site to see how exciting the progress has been. Don’t forget to fill out your ideas for the new school naming survey here, your input is so important.

December 16th & 17th will be Pajama Day at West Park Elementary school! Students are invited to end the semester on a cozy way – please leave slippers and stuffed animals at home – and we enjoy seeing you in your PJs! There is NO donation needed, this is just a fun way to wrap up our semester.
Quarantine and health precautions: As you may be aware, a student or staff member in Mrs. Fernee’s and Ms. Dixon’s A cohort has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Each case of COVID-19 is be interviewed by public health. These two classes will be quarantined through December 18th. As always, for the safety of our staff and students, if you have someone in your household who has tested positive for COVID-19, please let our school nurse, Kim Sheen, know (719-293-0975 or firstname.lastname@example.org) so that we can follow our safety policies.
*Thank you for following important health and safety precautions: wear your mask, stay far apart, gather only within households, and wash your hands often.
*Students will bring their computer devices home with them over the Winter Break. I recommend leaving the device in their school bag in a safe place until it is used again, to prevent damage.
*Winter Celebration Activities online from Mrs. Moffett.
Two Google Music Classrooms are available for your child. They have the same content and include dancing, singing, workouts, crafts, drawing, and learning about other cultures. Any family can access these anytime!

*An update from WPE Project Dream Director Taylor Rapke: Thank you for great Project Dream programming this semester! We are looking forward to continuing this programming for the remainder of the semester. Spring semester is yet to be determined. A goal we have here at Project Dream is for students to complete their packet during Project Dream time. With this, we don’t want families to have to worry about completing packets at home. Beginning Monday, November 30th we will have K-1 packets stay at Project Dream. This way we will be able to track packet completion for all students who attend Project Dream programming. At the end of each week we will return packets to teachers. Teachers will then be sending these completed packets home. Because 2nd grade has daily packets those will continue to be sent home in the student’s folder. Please reach out to Taylor Rapke if you have any questions – 719-293-5363 – email@example.com.
*Want to read a story with me? Please go to our WPE Bedtime Stories Facebook page. You may recognize some of your favorite Lake County people reading their favorite children’s book.
* If you have any tech concerns, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with a description of the problem.
*Thank you for your understanding as I have been out of school for an extended time due to an injury in my neck. I’ll be having surgery soon to fix it and look forward to being back to work by mid-January. I have missed seeing the WPE crew, and am so proud of the seamless way in which our staff delivers high quality education each and every day.
*Winter gear that the teachers requested for students will be distributed before break. Unfortunately, many of our orders have been delayed in shipping. Thank you for your patients.
