West Park Friday Afternoon Parent Update 2/12/2021
Greetings, WPE families and students! We have a four-day weekend. There is no school on Monday, 2/15, and there will be school on Friday 2/19.
*Reminder – Kids Heart Challenge donations are due no later than February 18th to Mrs. Ayers.
*Our new building is coming along well! Crews are putting up brickwork on the outside and hanging drywall on the inside – it is so very exciting to see such impressive progress.
*Kindergarten classes will continue their field work on snowshoes this week. They are intrepid snow-shoers and learners.
*This spring our parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 3 and Thursday, March 4, from 12:00-8:00pm. On these days, students will attend school or Project Dream until 11:00am. We will dismiss at 11:00 am when buses will run their regular route and parents can pick up their children. Each appointment will be 30 minutes long.
Our conferences will be held virtually, as they were in October. Interpretation will still be available. Instead of arriving at the buildings, you will log on to your child’s device (iPad or Chromebook) and go to their teacher’s Google Classroom. It is best if your child is also present at the conference – as they are the reason we are meeting!
We will use the same on-line appointment system. This allows families to pick a time that is best for their busy schedules and request interpretation, if needed. Please follow the link below and pick the best date and time for you to meet with your child’s teacher. You will receive a confirmation email – if you do not receive the confirmation email, please check that you have completed all of the steps in setting up your appointment.

If internet accessibility is a challenge for you and your family, please notify your child’s classroom teacher to make arrangements for a phone conference. Please click on the Meets link only at the time of your conference, as there may be other conferences in progress before your scheduled time, and privacy is important. Each conference will end at the designated time to allow the next appointment to begin. Thank you in advance, as we always enjoy this time to connect with you!
*Please join Project Dream and GOL! at Huck Finn on Saturday, February 27th for a family ice-skating celebration! There will be cookies, hot chocolate, and tons of fun! GOL! Will cover all costs for rental and admission fees. In order to comply with Public Health regulations we ask that you come to the rink during the following times as assigned by your last name.
- 9:00-10:00: A-K
- 10:00-11:00: L-P
- 11:00-12:00: Q-Z
Please note this is a family event and families are expected to stay with their children while at the rink. We hope to see you there!
*Thank you for reading at least 20 minutes per day with your child! Check out the information as to how important this is for their developmental growth and success:

*A few reminders to help your child’s day at school be as successful as possible:

*Please drop off your students by 8:00am if they should eat breakfast at school, and by 8:10 if they have eaten at home. We start classes at 8:10 and students are considered tardy who arrive after 8:10.
*School ends at 3:20. Please pick up your child after 3:20 each day. We really appreciate you waiting patiently in your car as your child will be called and will walk out to your vehicle.
*If you have any end of day changes in plans, please let the front office know by 2:30 so that we can get them the correct message in time for dismissal! 719-486-6890.
*We play outside every day! Please be sure to send your child with snow pants, jacket, hats, gloves, and boots.
*Please send your child’s device with them to school each day – it is an important part of our school supplies, and it makes your child’s day more challenging when they do not have their device.

*Good sleep is critical to your child’s success at school, just like it is critical for adults. In general, our WPE students should be in bed by 8pm. Having the SAME BEDTIME each night is very important, as children thrive with routines. Good sleep helps them stay healthy, rested, and ready to learn.
Here’s a chart to help guide recommended bedtimes:
